I'd be interested in acquiring Rielly as a rental for 2021-22. Would this deal cut it for Toronto?

Why? You want Libor Hajek for another year?

So who’s going third pair Lindgren or Miller. This seems unnecessary. We need a shutdown 3rd pair guy to play with Lundkvist like Dillon or Ekholm. Not an offensive guy. So our lines could look something like this: Lindgren-Fox, Miller-Trouba and Ekholm/Dillon-Lundkvist.

Lindgren and Miller are already shutdown defencemen. The 3rd LD should be a puck moving offensive D-man. And it's Rielly on the third pair like how DeAngelo had that role. It's an enhanced version of him as a rental. Also Dillon and Ekholm aren't rentals.

Milller

He had a alright year but whats the guarantee he does it again. Letting him play 15-17 mins a night seems like the smarter choice especially for his development cause I have seen it time and time again young dman has 1 good year, gets thrust in the top 4 and does poorly from then on.

Plus it allows for Miller-Lundqvist to develop chemistry which is important for any future top pairing

So you go

Lindgren-Fox
Rielly-Trouba
Miller-Lundqvist or whoever steps up

That’s ridiculous cause Lundkvist is an offensive d man and gonna be a rookie. He needs a shutdown partner who’s experienced to play with. We’re not gonna throw Jones and Lundkvist together. You’re just asking to get bullied in front of the net with so many smaller guys. We need guys that are either bigger or play bigger than they are.

Paying that much for a rental in Reilly is brain dead when we aren’t even playoff contenders. And adding Reilly does not make us contenders.

Yeh I take it back. I like Rielly with Trouba more now that I think of it. I wanted to keep Miller status quo but it's probably in our best interest to pair him with Lundkvist or Schneider

Better than overpaying for Reilly. Also what about Schneider I think him and lundkvist would be good together

You really think this team is decent enough to make it. Even if we did we’d get swept. This team is not constructed to win. It’d be the Leafs all over again.

I don't think Schneider is ready yet, but I'd be very well down for that in 2022 so... idk what your problem is since you don't seem to care about Matthew Robertson. You're just swapping Hajek for Rielly in 2021 and then selling his RFA rights the following offseason[EDIT: he's a UFA, but either way you're replacing his roster spot with Braden Schneider].

Then you can roll with Lundkvist on the left and Schneider on the right the following season... no?

Yeah. I do. Probably not ready to make a run yet, but how is the team with my lines not constructed to win?

Good enough to make it, but nowhere near ready to battle in the playoffs. Far too offensively minded and not enough grinder types to win. They’d get bullied like they did last season except it’d be worse in the playoffs.

How many grinders are you looking for? I signed Corey Perry to play with Morgan Barron, in order to tackle that aspect.

I feel like a Coleman, Czikas, Goodrow, Gourde, Nosek type would be great adds cause they bring a hardworking element to the team that battles. Perry could be a solid add. I wish we could swap Kreider for Coleman, then we’d be good.

I'd throw engvall in for free, with our terrible cap situation 1.25m is a little too much for him

Same. I think it benefits both teams, one fills a big need and the other gets cap space.
