But didn't the same report state it's either Wild or Russia?
Those are his only two options, yes. The Wild hold his NHL rights, while CSKA Moscow hold his rights for the KHL. So it's either/or for him.
The official KHL cap is something like $12M/team. The highest official amount players typically get paid is $2.5M. That said, it's a well known fact that players can and are often times paid additional amounts under the table. So it's not uncommon they can make a similar amount over there.
There are two reasons why I don't think he'd bolt back to the KHL.
1) Kaprizov has stated many times he wants to play in the NHL, he's done everything he possibly can in the KHL and considers himself an NHL caliber player. Unless it's as the absolute last resort, he'd rather be here than there.
2) Kevin Weekes was represented by Kaprizov's current agent Paul Theofanous during his entire playing career. He isn't impartial in this. He released that information to help Theofanous put pressure on the Wild, hoping that would force Guerin's hand into signing the short-term contract they want. It's a negotiating ploy and tactic that's it. Saying Kaprizov would head back to the KHL if he doesn't get the contract he wants is literally their only bargaining chip.
Take the report he'd head back with a massive grain of salt.
