Why would the avs have to over pay?

Both landeskog and the avs have said they want to do whatever possible so he stays a long term avalanche and Friedman said he had heard that too

Landy would take less to stay with the avs than on the open market

If that were true they would already have a deal done

Well, this is just patently false. Deals take time.

You won’t see a deal for any major UFA (Ovi, Landeskog RNH*) until after the expansion draft. If they were to sign before then that’s just one more guy they have to protect. In Colorado’s case you’d be looking at losing Kadri.

Im not advocating he is going to take a huge paycut.

And no one is singing anything until the cap is officially announced to be flat and especially when it comes to how the NHLPA will be managing Escrow. contract structure of how and what years they are getting paid their salary will be key in these upcoming contracts

I think how the NHLPA is going to apply escrow is a bigger factor. Players will want to know what years they are paying into more so they can structure their salaries. Why have a heavy salary year if the NHLPA plans on with holding more salaries this year vs others etc.

It probably takes 9m+ for avs to let him walk but money isnt everything with players. There are just as many examples of high profile players signing offers for less money to go to places that fit them more as guy who will just sign for max dollar regardless where it is.

So like I said just bc teams will try to spend on him doesnt mean he would be intereted in those markets or leaving

Yeah that’s true but 1,5 million extra a year over 7 years is a lot of money man especially is it in a low state tax market

They are not signing now because of Seattle. If they are under contract before expansion draft, they have to be protected. Same with Ovi, Hall, & Dougie. I am willing to bet they all sign right after.

I thought that too until I started seeing some Donskoi selections popping up by a couple of guys like Dom Luszczyszyn. Seattle front office is supposedly heavily invested in metrics and Donskoi is a solid metrics guy. I do think it is Graves, Donskoi or Compher.
