The Sharks contending is contingent on Burns to Seattle

Description
Becoming a good team requires money.
Signing a impactful centre like:
Danault (TY I know he’s not leaving MTL)
Krejci

The team I’ve created below is very impressive imo. It will be a major improvement.

It is reliant on the Sharks moving money out. Buying out Jones this year is tough to swallow and so to be able to succeed in the present (which is the teams desire, not mine), and still have money for Ferraro, Knyzhov, Barabanov and Hertl is hanging on moving money out.

Buying out Vlasic and Jones this year do not help us long term; and barely provide a suitable fix in the present. They should be buried or sat on for another year or so. It is the only way to firstly; make a play by moving Burns while still saving even more long term money by sitting on those contracts. Then signing a impactful player and a new goalie help this roster look much more appealing. Plus signing a veteran D to a 1 year helps a ton.

This team firstly can now:
- Contend for a playoff spot
- Not lose a multitude of youth assets or long term cap (to buyouts)
- And finally if the team sucks you have premium assets to sell in;
— Hertl
— Martinez
— Labanc/ Meier

Burns leaving SJS is the only way to successfully contend and not ruin the roster through buyouts and keeping him.

The suggested price is likely not scratching the spot for Seattle to accept but the potential in sending Burns, Donato, some seconds/ a decent prospect is where the Sharks are heading.

I’d rather rebuild but signing a guy like Haula and keeping Burns plus adding a goalie seems like more bandaids that will continue to not be enough. Making the drastic move of Burns is a requirement imo. Though it’s unlikely to happen from both a Seattle perspective and a SJS willingness/ stubbornness to shakeup.

Danault is an under the radar great player but any team paying him over 40 million dollars is gonna have a bad time

    I can’t suggest signing him at 5.5m x 5-7 years is reasonable.

As MTL keeps him in most scenarios and sending a contract of 5-6m is easily matched and signed by MTL. Suggesting a higher price is the best route because I can’t assume he’d leave MTL even with a high pay check. Gotta put up a big contract to make it seem plausible on both ends.

If he were to sign in SJ cheaper than by all means it’d happen. But I can’t suggest that as a reasonable outcome. He doesn’t have any reason to leave MTL.

I don't really think Burns to Seattle is the only way to make at attempt at contending, but it certainly makes things much, much easier. Problem is, Wilson (being the doofus he is sometimes) likely still thinks Burns has like 1st rounder value and will probably protect him over Simek.

In terms of Buyouts, both Vlasic and Jones are truly brutal, but Jones is one I could cope with if he got bought out this offseason.

I would freaking love to move Couture and perhaps Meier (for assets) as well, but there's only so much you can do with a GM who's confident a bad team is good.

I’d really like to hold off on the Jones buyout as long as we can; which is why the move of Burns is so much stronger. Burns still has value (as both of us are aware). But his contract is the issue. Like if Burns cost 5-6mil I doubt there’d be any complaints if any at all. Just that number at 8 with term is the issue and makes him low value. But in terms of being a good player; he showed us he still is. That’s why I both see Seattle potentially accepting him to their roster and Doug potentially not exposing him.

I really hope something “cool” happens like a great signing or a lateral trade that could make sense. I don’t have much hope but I still have faith we could see some positive moves (not all negative).

If we draft Wallstedt (controversial I know) and come away from expansion with a good move (as Doug said he wants to make more moves just hopefully they are meaningful enough) I’d be a happy camper.

Agreed on all counts. Although I'm not as opposed to a Jones buyout as you, I would still rather not do it. And yes, keeping the extra 4 million dollars from not buying out Jones would definitely make moving Burns more crucial. No doubt.

Oh yeah for sure. I've been toying around with Reinhart trade scenarios in AGM's for awhile and even though something like that is super unlikely, it would be really nice to see happen.

I'm sure I've voiced this opinion before, but I would rather not take Wallstedt in the top-9. But If we could somehow trade down to 10 or 11 and get him there I would be onboard.

I could see MTL being wary on anything North of a 5.5 AAV for Danault. Suzuki is their clear 1C going forward for awhile, and while his development hasn't been perfect I still think they're probably penciling in KK at 2C for the future. with a lot of guys having term on that roster they may let him walk if someone else offered sayin 5 years 5.75 AAV
