Yes they definitely need a rebuild! They got some nasty contracts that they desperately need to get rid of… you will have to do bad contact for bad contract, but if they don’t rebuild I wonder if they will trade some. For example: Karlsson for Bobrovsky, buyout Jones, Vlasic and more for Skinner if he would waive etc. This is just if players waive.

Minnesota says no. If they decide it's their time and trade for deadline rental Hertl, it's going to cost a lot less.

            https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/players/timo-meier

Fluctuates. He’s good on either wing but I’d say he’s better with just having a consistent line, which he hasn’t had in years.

I’ve discussed it before and some people have taken what I’ve said too literally when I talk bad about him. Just tryna be objective and not talk all good; but don’t take the bad so bad!

He’s a fantastic play driver, solid 5 on 5 and has a incredible strength on and away from the puck. He’s like Hertl; strong ply driver, who can speed up the ice with soft hands or barrel into a corner and strong arm you off the puck.

            His issue is that he:

Doesn’t utilize his whole tool box enough (which is why I think Meier can only get better with age, as he’s just 23/24)

Lack of engagement (mainly due to losing, and not having a consistent line)

Thought process could use some better speed.

So he’s incredibly lethal when he’s on, but when he’s off he’s either going for a free skate or he’s making great ice time but thinking too much or too little. When he’s on he’s a lethal top 3 threat, but when he’s off he’s just a okay/ good third liner.

His issues mainly stem from the lack of engagement and frustration clearly from losing and being a terrible team. That does not mean his attitude is bad or he’s a detriment to the team. But I like to say it’s; when we’ve lost 5 of 6 and we can’t buy a save for our lives, he’s either doing everything by himself (which is often never gonna get you anywhere unless your McDavid or a franchise player) or he doesn’t care enough to have consistent shifts (meaning he’ll have a lethal shift and then if the next shift goes poorly you’ll never know what his next shift is like).

He’s good enough to be like Kane (Evander); a lethal top 6 power forward with speed, hands, shooting ability and a knack for driving play all over the ice and is incredibly talented. But Meier can be even better than Kane.

Which is why I really don’t want to trade him and think whoever we would trade him to would get a steal and make us regret trading him.

It would likely be if there’s mutual interest as Hertl has a form of NTC. So I get what you’re saying but a Hertl trade would likely have a probability of a extension (or the mutal agreement of there being a easy outcome of lasting more than just 1 playoff run, with the Sharks giving Hertl a landing spot he’d like) just due to Hertl likely being the one who decides his spots due to a good internal relationship.

I’d also be fine with swapping out Boldy if it was just a rental trade. Just tossing my perspective in!

If it's a situation where Hertl is definitely going to re-sign to a contract he and the Wild can agree to, there might be some more interest, but Boldy is going to be playing in our top 6 full time by the end of this year. He's not a prospect we're going to include in a trade like this, he's going to be the young, cheap talent that supplements Hertl. Same with Rossi.

If there's no extension at the time of the trade, Boldy is completely off limits. It would have to be something like Beckman, Khustnudinov, Khovanov, etc.

I’d be perfectly fine with Beckman and a first for the Hertl rental (without an agreed extension). I think that’s a very fair price for both sides! I get what you’re saying I just like Boldy and felt like using him, he’s a great prospect.

I would hold off on Ozzy playing. We need to maximize his 3 years of elc, and need to push off paying him until we're back on the upswing. Also he might improve our team, which while tanking is counterintuitive

I would hold off on Ozzy playing. We need to maximize his 3 years of elc, and need to push off paying him until we're back on the upswing. Also he might improve our team, which while tanking is counterintuitive

Haha yup, but I do think there is learning to be gained from a bad team. I think Ferraro (2 seasons) learned from it and so has Knyzhov. The teams kept a good mentality and it looks like losing has only effected the vets; whereas our youth generally have grown through the adversity due to the strong culture the Sharks have created.

And I only put Ozzy in because I really liked his mentality from his post season comments , along on the lines of:

“My only goal this year is to make the NHL next camp”

Which is something I liked hearing, and I believe he’s got the tools to do so. Even if he doesn’t, I’ve appreciated the Wiesblatt selection more then I did when we first selected him.

But I do get the necessities of keeping all 3 years due to cap.
