You might be used to seeing trades like Stuetzle and Norris for Karlsson but that was not a fair deal, this is a top 6 forward on an expiring deal. It's fair value.

No from SJ, we don't want either of Marody or Benson as the foundation of a Hertl trade. Neither of them are remotely interesting to us. We'll start talking when Edmonton offers one of their legit prospects (ie. Bouchard, Broberg, Holloway, Lavoie)

Have you ever heard of a player of Hertl's calibre on a 1 year deal fetching a top tier prospect?

First line centers dont get traded at the deadline. Taylor Hall and Mark Stone are recent guys who got a great prospect along with a first. JG Pageau is a middle six center who got a first second and a third. Think its pretty reasonable for the sharks to find a top prospect and a first deal, and likely would find a team that would extend him right away.

Not Broberg-caliber, but in terms of value, kind of yeah.

In the Duchene trade, Columbus paid:

- A mid 1st rounder in a much better draft
- Vitaly Abramov
- A low tier prospect (Davidsson)
- Another conditional 1st if Duchene resigned

And that was for a deadline deal meaning they only got Duchene for 23 regular season games and 10 playoff games. Considering Edmonton would be getting Hertl for 82 games plus playoffs, they should arguably be paying more than CBJ did for Duchene. Not to mention SJ doesn’t really want to move Hertl and we’d probably intend on resigning him unlike OTT with Duchene. Look at the haul Taylor Hall got near the deadline last year too. There’s just no reason for us to move Hertl if we’re not getting good enough value back.
