Description
Just my opinion of who goes where, team needs and best player available. Let me know where I got it right, wrong and what you think. Will add ti descriptions for rest of teams next week.
ROUND 1TEAMORIGINALPLAYERDETAILS
1Logo of the Buffalo Sabres-Best player available, moving forward with both Power and Dahlin, great continuation of defense for Buffalo.
2Logo of the Seattle Kraken-Probably the best forward in this draft, not a bad pick at all for Seattle coming into the league.
3Logo of the Anaheim Ducks-Edvinsson and Drysdale moving forward as a defense pair in the future? Anaheim gladly selects Simon Edvinsson.
4Logo of the New Jersey Devils-This has got to be an easy decision for NJ. We've seen the skill Quinn and Jack have, no reason not to assume Luke isn't any different.
5Logo of the Columbus Blue Jackets-3 Michigan players selected in the top 5. Johnson projects to be a top 6 center, exactly what CBJ after trading Dubois.
6Logo of the Detroit Red Wings-In my first mock draft I had Detroit select Jesper Wallstedt, but I think if Eklund is there at 6, I see Yzerman selecting him.
7Logo of the San Jose Sharks-San Jose needs everything. They start off by drafting the best player available at this point in the draft which is Brandt Clarke.
8Logo of the Los Angeles Kings-This is gonna be my what is he thinking pick. LA is loaded with forward prospects and with Quick up there in age, I see LA grabbing the best goalie in the draft. Once Wallstedt is ready, Byfield, Turcotte and Kaliyev will already be in the NHL.
9Logo of the Vancouver Canucks-Vancouver adds another top 6 winger to play with either Petterson or Horvat.
10Logo of the Ottawa Senators-With Norris emerging as a top 6 center for Ottawa, they hope that adding Mctavish, he can be another top 6 center for them.
11Logo of the Arizona Coyotes-
Draft Pick Forfeited
12Logo of the Chicago Blackhawks-I don't see Strome being in CHI to much longer and not sure about Toews and his injury. Chicago grabs another center to go with Dach.
13Logo of the Calgary Flames-I think this is the offseason where Calgary trades Monahan, and with Zary in the pipeline, Calgary selects Cole Sillinger.
14Logo of the Philadelphia Flyers-Philly's got some great young forwards and decide to grab another young defenseman.
15Logo of the Dallas Stars-Another young winger to go along with Hintz and Robertson for the future.
16Logo of the New York Rangers-Rangers decide to go with a wild card. At this point, Raty seems to be a high risk, high reward pick.

I don't think Cossa makes it past Edmonton at #20.

I see Lysell, going a bit higher, L'heureux lower because discipline issues and i have no idea why people put Roman Schmidt as a first but other than that, pretty good

Best player available at the Sharks selection is Wallstedt, not Clarke.

Great job though. As a Wings fan I would be very happy with this.

Rangers will probably trade their pick, but if they don't, they will take L'Heureux or Svechkov

Wallstedt could be the best player in the draft. He could have a similar path to Spencer Knight. Certainly beats grabbing Tyler Myers Jr at first overall.

Ceiling is about the same, but Clarke is much more likely to reach it.

Guenther. We've spent too much cap dollar and picks on RHD. We need scoring forwards in the system.

WIth Karl and Burns stuck in SJ for the foreseeable future and Merkley coming along slowly, Kniazev, Meloche and Hatakka in the pipeline with Pasichnuk, do you really think we need another D prospects. Our best forwards are far from joining the Sharks except for Wiesblatt who could make the jump in the next year. We need a blue chip scorer in the system imo.

Merkley's ceiling is really high still but his development has been slower than desired. He still has elite skating and puck handling but his d-zone play is barely AHL level.
