Nylander and Tkachuck put up the same point totals. Tkachuck had 1 good year and that was when Calgary overperformed and lost to Colorado r1.

In general I see this trade being like the Vrana for Mantha trade

Cgy gets 3 years of local boy Nylander at a low cap hit and Dubas has to go through the difficult task of contract negotiating with Tkachuck whose probs gonna want more than 7 on his next deal.

Tkachuk’s 2 years younger, has more 70+ point pace seasons, and brings a lot more intangibles (physicality, leadership, agitation, penalty drawing, etc.).

Agreed he would want more than 7 , long-term outlook here leaves room to sign Tkchuck long-term at 9 million

thats why im kind of against it. We got the big 4 and Nylanders contract is pretty good. Would rather use the space on a Dman or a bunch of other guys like Coleman + other depth guys

Age isn't relevant , their mdi twenties 1 signed prime years at 7 and the other not, all those intangibles Tkchuck has haven't translated into anything for Calgary so far

Whereas Nylander has had oodles of success on a significantly more stacked Toronto roster. Being the 4th best forward must be nice, if Tkachuk had 3 guys that could put up 90+ points (and two of which could score 50 goals) the Flames would most likely be somewhere. I know for a fact they don’t lose to Dallas in round 1 last year if he’s healthy.

What about Nylander & Rielly for Tkachuk and Gio $1.75 retained on Gio for cap purposes, both teams break even financially and Rielly is the longer-term play for CGY assuming an extension is worked out?
