Very few Hyman replacements on the market

Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 22, 2021
Published: Jun. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pretty much every Hyman replacement (power forward who can play in the top 9 and produce offensively) that have been suggested are either not good enough (bottom 6ers) or would come in at a price where it's more worth bringing back Hyman. Seems like very few suggestions can fill Hymans role without one of the aforementioned issues. Does anyone have a player in mind who can?

Well.. I will say that with Hyman there's an injury history. I have not followed Coleman's career closely, same with the rest of the guys on your list.

I think the injury history should be a factor in determining whether to bring back Hyman or sign player(s) who can bring similar things and don't have an injury history.

Coleman is the only player who can be effective in the top 6 - the rest are bottom 6 F.

Pretty much my exact point. And Coleman is gonna cost you 4 million minimum. Hyman won't come in at too much more than that

Most oilers Acgms I see they offer him 5-6 so unfortunately I think Hyman walks but if you could get Coleman at this price I’d down that being said I would offer Hyman 5x5 but no more

Coleman will get 4.25 x 4 IMO. Hyman will get 5-5.5 x 5-6 years. Leafs are a win now team so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to pay Hyman , he’s a great player

I'd take Hyman at 5 over Coleman at 4. At 6 yeah give me Coleman but 5 is worth keeping Hyman

It's a bit of a gamble due to his knees but the downside of losing him is a gaping hole in the top 6 LW so paying him would be worth it I think. Problem with letting him walk is that you NEED to get a replacement top 6 power forward and if you don't get Coleman that's a boatload of assets being traded to get a guy when you could just pay Hyman and keep those assets

It's up to whether Hyman would take less than that to stay in Toronto. Hopefully the endorsement deals will even out the lesser AAV

I did a test on something and it's funny.

Dubas can actually recreate the goodrow-Coleman-Gourde line in Toronto

Now it does require rielly and kerfoot to be moved but that won't be hard

Another option just put mikheyev with Matthews and Marner. I know he regressed but he did suffer a serious wrist injury. I see him rebounding into a 30+ point wing next season as man was he doing it all before the injury

How would he recreate it?

I think they need to move on from mikheyev

Sign Goodrow and Coleman and help Tampa out of cap hell by trading for gourde

Now this does require rielly and kerfoot to go but the funny thing is the cap fits

If Goodrow signs for 2 and Coleman 4 it works

Also keep mikheyev trust me he's gonna rebound. Tendons take longer to fully heal and I could see his wrist was still giving him trouble. Fully expect him to rebound next season

Definitely need to move on from soup. Kid's got all the heart in the world...If only he had an ounce of skill to go with it.

He had skill before his wrist got torn. Watch his 2019 highlights he was a serious threat and was on pace at one point for 50 points. If he works on his shot over the summer like Kapenan did man is he gonna be dangerous again. Cause with his speed and defensive drive he is such a good asset once he works on his shot

Coleman > Tatar / Schwartz > Saad > Hyman

Getting anyone of those guys for under 5 million is really good. Coleman is playing somewhat defensive minutes and more importantly fewer ones than many comparable wingers. Just give him more minutes, watch his point go up, and how *shocked* everyone is at his "late career development" when in reality he's been amazing the last few years. Schwartz is defensively really strong, just like Coleman, and hopefully for him his offense doesn't regress more.
Tatar is driving offense like crazy. Put him with anyone who can finish and you'll see results. Saad is somewhat similar. Hyman pretty much too. I don't know where the 2-way rep comes from, none of these guys is much above average defensively, but all are really good on offense.

Hall and RNH are options as well, but will probably cost more. RNH is the worst forward mentioned so far, but he's still good. Hall is probably around Saad territory.

Palmieri is still good but not as good as anyone mentioned above, and is probably going to be overpaid.
Armia is fine and an option if you just need to fill out a spot on the wing. He's a slightly above average player. The worst one mentioned in this post.
Andrew Cogliano is still a really defensively strong option and I think he'll sign a contract more beneficial to his team than the above. Great value here, even as a 3rd line winger.

Ondrej Kase is really interesting if Boston lets him go. Crazy upside. Like potentially better than anyone I mentioned so far.
Josh Leivo has basically always been underrated. He's defensively good and could explode higher up in the lineup. I would sign him regardless of if there is a spot for him or not.
