What are you getting from DET?
I feel like Kass is worth a 3rd or 4th

-Neal probably starts with a first to dump
-Probably only getting Yamamoto at 2 years for that price. To go to 4 years you're going to pay over $3mil.
-I think Coleman has expressed interest to stay south of the border. Would probably have to overpay to bring him here.
-RNH probably looking at $6mil per year on that term. Minimum $5.5.
-Hyman probably wants $5.5 or more.
-Oleksiak will likely grab $3-3.5 on the open market.

Nowhere near enough to take Neal off your books.

Neal is an expensive cap dump and that is not nearly enough to get Detroit interested.

Add Lavoie + Berezkin + a 2nd and you have a good chance of getting the offer accepted.

If not then Detroit will simply say no thanks and choose another better deal from someone else and let you keep Neal.

You could get a 3rd from us if you retain half

Lol Oiler fans still thinking they can dump neal off for scraps. We all know it's going to take a 1st at minimum to dump him, probably even more. Enough with the fantasy land proposals, please come join reality

In reality, by the time the Oilers retain half for Kassian there isn't much point in trading him. May as well keep him for another year and see if he turns it around. The most likely trade for Kassian would be to a team with another underperforming contract that may benefit from a change of scenery.

That really depends on how the deal is structured. If Holland can manage to convince a couple of other GMs to work with him, its possible that Neal's cap hit could be spread across three teams. Edmonton would need to find trading partners that are rebuilding, or preparing to rebuild, and offer up draft picks or perhaps prospects. New Jersey, Detroit, Anaheim, and Seattle are all good candidates. Its not unreasonable to suggest that Holland could retain 50% of Neal's salary, and send a couple of mid to late round draft picks to any of those teams in exchange for future considerations. The receiving team could then retain 50% of the remaining balance of Neal's salary, and flip that contract and a late pick to the third team which would buy the contract out.

In that scenario, Edmonton would retain $958,333.50, and the other two teams would take cap hits of about $479,166.75. That kind of deal is not without precedent in the NHL.
