If Calgary still wants to be competitive without Tkatchuk , Marner might be their best option at a hockey trade, if they want to retool/rebuild they'd be better off elsewhere.

Absolutely, Marner or Eichel are the two options for a Tkachuk hockey trade, they didn't bring Sutter back to burn it down, and sometime in a hockey trade the return for futures can look way better but this move keeps Calgary competitive and possibly improves them from last year.

I mean Seth Jones could be quite something if you're not on his NTC ... But can this offense really be playoff caliber without Tkatchuk, Marner and Hyman (Let say you're staying as is up front)?

With the retention on Mitch we would be paying Tkachuk the same salary as his QA is 9mil. I like what Tkachuk brings but not at 11mil. If we move Mitch i hope we get a young D and cap space

Really good point, if the Leafs could sign him long term for less it could make a lot of sense but I definitely get what you are saying. What would be your top D target for Marner? Just out of curiosity

That would be nearly 20 million dollars between Hanifin, Tavnev, Andersson and Jones with Valimaki and a 6 D still needing to get a contract, it would be a hell of a D core but the forwards would be scary bad, Calgary would need to address a few more issues if that were the case, I think the Hyman signing would be a good start but a top 6 of Gaudreau (could be gone in a year), Monahan (probably gone in a year or two), Lindholm, Hyman, Mangiapane and Dube(?) would not be playoff caliber.

I mean Hanafin and Tanev are worth their money but why does Anderson makes a million per year more than dudes like Chiarot and Edmundson? Is he that good? (Not watching much of Flames but I didn't notice an almost 5m$ guy when he was playing us.

I think the Leafs would prefer to leave the 2nd round pick and retention out of the deal.

Not saying it would be 1v1 or the other team would trade the player listed for Mitch but Makar, Werenski, McAvoy,Heiskanen,Chabot,Provorov,Sergachev,Theodore lesser on Jones, chychrun and Ekblad.

Hanifin and Andersson will be the top pairing next year and you'd hope Tanev can do the same for Valimaki this year that he did for Hanifin last year.
Andersson is an interesting one cause he signed a deal in a really good year and it looks very overpaid at this point, he had a down season last year playing with Giordano against McDavid, Matthews, Draisaitl for most of the season. I think he is worth his contract it just isn't showing yet, it will be a really good looking deal in year 4, 5, 6 I believe.

I honestly think the Canadian division was the worst thing to happen to the Flames, you spend so long building a team to compete in the Pacific division with the California teams and Vegas that always ice a big thumping roster, to switch the game completely and try compete with high flying teams like the Leafs, Oilers x10, Jets and even the Senators that are uber talented is a crazy change. Andersson will thrive in the Pacific against those top guys, he plays a really solid heavy game.

Theodore would be an unbelievable target for Marner.

Would love to see Theodore and Hamilton in the Blue and White and the Leafs move Mo and Muzzin.
That would help shift the balance of cap and replenish some picks
