so does 1 fan see a roster of Oilers trading for Graves and Compher and its just repeat what has been done?

This doesnt help the avs. They arent trading anyone before the XD and they arent taking less value for their players

    No thanks from the Leafs.

The first is nice, but Kassian sucks, makes too much and for too long.

Fair point, tbh I would say the J.T.+Graves side is the better side of the trade but I think the argument behind it is that COL want to re-sign both Makar and Landy. From what I've seen some players (Donskoi, Graves, Compher) will need to be sold and most custom rosters are highlighting and taking advantage of that.

I would accept if I'm deciding for Colorado. I think it's a good return, and it frees up cap space to make other moves. Would most likely end up flipping Bear, but I still like it.

Cult like following in Edmonton for him anyway so I don't think Holland would trade him, even at 3.2 a year. Would you take it as a 3rd instead of second or do you think the Leafs just have no use for a player like that (even with a pick upgrade).

1 is being picked up in XD so thats 3m off the books. If they do move another guy its bc of a hockey trade not a sell off trade

I think a Kassian type player would benefit the Leafs but considering their cap situation I don’t think Kassian himself fits.

so you lose Trade Graves bc of the XD and the fear of losing him for nothing, just to lose Bear in the XD instead and then you dont have compher....all you have to show for it a 2nd round pick and 2 roster spots to fill?

    Thats pretty poor asset management

Disagree. The cap space gained is a big deal, as the team can re-sign Saad. My ideal off season would see Graves, JT, and Donskoi all playing elsewhere. The roster is better in the end.

I think that is just wreckless asset management, if you thinkt he Avs can just easily move 10m off the books wihtout having to pay teams to take good players....every team is going to be tryign to move money out. No is is coming out ahead with that type of cap purge

I think the idea for the Avs is that they get something for what they can. They need to free up space if they want Landy and Makar, and thats gunna cost them some L's in trading. Tbh too, it would be better to take an L trading Donskoi than having a team offer sheeting Makar more than the Avs can afford and them having to either match it and lose Landy or decline and lose Makar.

There is a proposal here where two of the three are moved. I'd get Detroit involved and get one of their seconds for Bear. Donskoi goes to Seattle.

Avs end up with two second round picks and cap space to sign Saad and go long term on Makar.

    RML
    Saad, Newhook, Burakovsky
    Jost, Kadri, Nichushkin
    Ranta, PEB, LOC/Kaut

    Toews, Makar
    Girard, Timmins
    Byram, EJ

I don't think Edmonton does this. If they did though then I'm in.

1....Offersheets are never a threat, only fans believe they are when they look at a good player and cap space and think that play with sign any and every OS that coems their way. That is not true. There is 0 risk in a Makar OS

2...People assume values right now without knowing what the cap is goign to be, flat for 3 years...5 years? Or what the NHLPA will do with escrow going forward, so valeus of contracts really are just pie in teh sky discussions. Fans saying a Team doesnt have cap space right now, no one actually knows that. Do the avs have room for Landeskog and Makar...100% they do. How much to after that is a mystery bc no one knows what the cap is at. They could be fine, they could be tight, could be a mess. So they are not in a position of weakness at this stage

3...Assuming a team is in cap hell when they are not is just projecting them taking lesser value for their players bc it fits another fan bases teams needs. That is simply not the case. Value is value regardless of how much a fan believes that team is in cap hell.

Offer sheets aren't a huge threat but the NHL is starting to trend towards seeing the value in them so who knows when that will change; however, I do agree it isn't a large threat, just something that is present.

They do have room for them, but they get hurt (in their depth) if they don't free space else where. Uncertainty is more a negative than a positive, they have 11 (10 after XD... then 12-13 after bringing up rookies) on roster rn and will likely need 23 to roster a complete team. That's a fairly steep bill to fill if you're working with only 25 mill in space.

Cap compliance is a massive deterrence with trade value, no ones gunna just take equal value for an asset when you know you have a massive arguing chip (cap compliance).
