What do they pay to dump

Created by: TheWolfe
Team: 2021-22 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 1, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Though Stevie does not have a history of taking on cap dumps, I think the wings would be daft not to weaponize their cap space this off season by taking on a couple bad contracts for picks.

The flat cap is putting a lot of teams in a bind, but the expansion draft may also be an option for teams looking to unload bad deals.

I assembled a few of the deals I thought it would make the most sense for Detroit to take on. So, with all that considered, what do we think Detroit gets for taking any of these contracts/what would these teams be willing to pay?

If I’m Detroit I get Killorn and sign Danault. Good way to shelter the youth too

I think the OIlers would need to pay a 1st plus convince a team to take Neal but in reality I don't think the Oilers are willing to pay the price and will just buy out.

I agree or they will find a team that they can retain and only spend a 2nd or less.

I think the price for Eriksson would be a second round pick. Ladd would probably be a first or a second and a good prospect which islanders have alot of. Boychuk stays on LTIR I think. Neal is also a first I would think or a second and a prospect like Lavoie.
Alot of other cap dump options in the league with Gardiner, gostisbehere, hagelin, Copley, Okposo, yandle, quick, Brown, Tyler Johnson, Martin Jones, koskinen, Roussel, beagle just to name a few

The issue with retaining is how much will they retain. A buy-out only costs us $2mil/year. If we retain 50% it costs more in years 1 and 2 which doesn't make sense for us, even retaining 33% is break-even is just spending assets to save money in 3 years which doesn't make that strong of a case.

years 1-2 of a buy out is ok as they should be looking at being a better play off team.
years 3-4 they should be looking at contending for a cup. that would have almost 2 million in dead space that year.

If you can get rid of neal and have extra cap space now and not be penalized for 4years when you want to be competitive you do it.

The reason I threw Boychuck on there is I'm not certain if his contract is insured our not. Isle aren't one of the richer teams in the league so if they still have to pay his salary, I'm sure they wouldn't mind getting it off the books. Don't know if that's the case though.

Yeah that's the hang-up with the Oilers and Neal, I don't think they're willing to burn a first to offload that deal which is honestly what it would take unless they were willing to offload a prospect. Which I don't think they are.

That's the conclusion I keep coming around to. The Oilers in the end aren't going to be willing to pay market value to dump him.
