Would they? A 4th rounder is pretty worthless. Stevie will probably wait for a better offer. He's under contract 2 more years.

Pánik is also pretty worthless. He was included as a cap dump in the Mantha trade.

Trading him away makes it possible for Detroit to offer roster spots to both Svechnikov and Smith, keeping Pánik means that one of Svech/Smith will have to be waived.

Trading Pánik also makes it possible to accept other cap dump deals of players that can be useful to the team as well as bringing assets in like, for instance, Tyler Johnson.
