Please get Dougie

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 20, 2021
Published: Jun. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If there’s any chance of the Canucks landing Dougie in FA, then they should pay SEA or anyone else to take the last year of Loui’s contract. Throw in another pick or prospect if Lind and a 2nd aren’t enough.

Filled in the 3C spot with Johansson, but it could be any veteran for that price on a short deal.

Does anyone else think that Jim Benning is going to go after Tyson Barrie? He offered him 6M before his good season… he will offer way more now or at least the same.

That wouldn’t surprise me, but obviously I’d prefer to pay more to get Hamilton. Barrie doesn’t have the shut-down side to his game that VAN needs.

I want Dougie in Vancouver but it will be hard to fit him without clearing cap from either Schmidt or Myers

I definitely agree! Hamilton would be a better option, but would you have enough cap for Boeser in one year, then Miller, Horvat, and Hoglander in two years?

If they can move Loui it could work (see above, haha). It’s a big ticket deal, but with the kids on bridge deals they could fit it and ride out the rest of the bad contracts over the next few years.

That means bridging Pettey and Hughes. That could work. Would love them to somehow get Dougie and Reinhart. They’d be a true contender

Next year wouldn’t be a big problem, as Holtby and Roussel will be off the books. Two years might be tighter, depending on how much Hoglander will command, but every team needs to make tough decisions at some point. I think it’s worth it to create a dominant top D pairing.

Okay, thanks. I just wanted to know what other think of that kind of stuff. After this year, you guys should definitely be able to be a good team if Jim actually gets smart, and not overpays for guys you don’t need like Barrie.

Hughes hasn’t earned or worth the same contract as Petey. He comes in cheaper given he needs a partner to offset his D.

    MacEwen isn’t a C.
