According to Pat Steinberg, arguably Calgary's #1 insider there is no trurth to the rumor started by Shane O'Brien
For those who don't know, Shane O'Brien is not an insider, he works for Sportsnet as an "analyst" and the only thing je has ever reported was the Montour toForida trade after the deal was struck. He's never had an inside scoop on any team before. B
O'Brien is so just starting a new podcast and tbrowing something like this out there is likely just to attract more listeners
Him wanting out makes a ton of sense with everything that has occurred, but from everything I have ever read or heard is that Steinberg is quite reliable and knows about the flames. That said, you do often see where certain guys get something from certain players and their camps, and then certain guys get into information from the teams. In these cases it is harder to nail down what's true or not.

Maybe if Friedman or the panel makes a report tonight there is some smoke but otherwise O'Brien is just making random **** up. The Tkachuk issues from earlier in the season were resolved after Sutter came in
I live in Calgary, I don’t think O’Brien is credible and he has sources but I wouldn’t dismiss players hearing things in players circles, him knowing something is plausible at least
At least it was Pat Steinberg, the guys a bit of a dweeb but he’s good at his job. If it was Eric Francis reporting this, I would be freaking out if I was a flames fan, no one carries more water for the flames front office than Francis
Even if Shane O'Brien just made up the Tkachuk "wants out" story, even the most ardent Flames supporter has to think Tkachuk won't want to stick around when he UFA eligible in two years. Seven years of the very middling Flames will be enough for a player who has options.

Another hot take from palhal, can't wait to see Matthews walk in 3 years too

Of course Matthews is going be a UFA, and the Leafs have a one in thirty chance of resigning him. When Matthews leaves the Leafs will have to find other players to fill his 11.6m cap hit Gee, the most casual hockey fan should know how free agency works.
I'm just so surprised that so many Flames think that Tkachuk has any motivation to remain a Flame any more than seven seasons. If Tkachuk isn't traded in the next 12 months, we will having this discussion on what the Flames do with Tkachuk as he approaches his last season before being a UFA

Your claim on Tkachuk wanting out is completely baseless though, why does he want out of Calgary? Just because you think so?
Because players sign bridge deals all the time before long term contracts, he is likely named captain soon, and Calgary is not blowing it up.
It isn't a question of Calgary blowing it up, it's whether Tkachuk wants to remain in Calgary long term. I say no, you say yes, it's opinion.
Yes, Tkachuk signed a bridge deal, but it him takes to with one year of being UFA if he wants. And his qualifying offer is I believe 9m for this 7th Flame season if he doesn't sign long term.
I could live with moving him to acquire Eichel but thats about it. Even then I would prefer a package of futures + Monahan. Maybe a 3-way trade similar to Duchene to Ottawa could work
