Description
This is an all-in swing big roster. I wasn't able to do as much on defense as I'd like, but the forward corps is a significant leap ahead of last year. I spent on prospects and picks to ship out Donskoi (streaky, sell high), Compher (expensive, stalling but still valuable), and Johnson (hurts, but can't afford him).

I gave Makar, Landeskog, and Grubauer the raises they deserve, on slightly team-friendly deals. I'd have a year or two of flexibility on the term for each of them to get the cap hit flexibility I needed. Jost deserves a raise and at the same time has more to prove. I think he and Timmins will appreciate short terms to be able to earn bigger raises.

Saad has stated his strong desire to be here beyond this season and I think that with this group, he'd be smart to ride the train for his peak, at a discount then cash in at 31. His play was like Landsekog lite all year and he really stepped it up in the Playoffs with consistent high effort games and a great goal streak.

For outside trades and signings, I targeted forwards who are high drive and excellent with possession metrics, even relative to their teams. Verhaeghe in particular gives us three excellent defensive centers who can all turn it on for .5 PPG plus, all the way down the lineup. I could see their positions moving up and down with performance and injuries. I'm not sure my package would be enough to get him, and likewise I think I overpaid for Tkachuk, but the package depends on how the Avs feel about scouting a late 1st round gem vs giving up a top prospect. The two of them combined should be able to power any sort of puck entry or retrieval scheme. I expect an insane amount of zone time with this roster. I am hoping Perry wants to do his tour of contenders, because honestly the team could use him. I could see him taking fewer games to help with the mileage and give some younger guys auditions. Or all 82, who knows but his possession stats are great and his jam will help make up for the defenseive corps' lack of snarl.

stop trying to trade for tkachuk without newhook. He is the first piece, and if he’s not there you’re not getting tkachuk. Unless you want to give mack, rant, or makar 🙄

Verhaeghe was one of the best players on the panthers , It’s going to take a lot more than that for Zito to consider trading him.

Why would Florida trade Verhaeghe, especially for nothing

Yeah Calgary and Florida don't consider those at all. It will cost a lot more than a 3rd for Seattle to take EJ, not to mention he has to waive his NMC
