Connor Brown is a more valuable trade piece than Monahan

Hes produced better on a worse team in almost every way. He is cheaper, and locked in for an extra year of term.

The 2nd is on the wrong side of that deal.

May I suggest you pair the 2 Swedish defensemen (Nemeth & Andersson) together to form the Swedish 5. It would work magic just like the Russian 5 did

I do not get Ottawa fan's delusional love affair with Conner Brown - He has a career ppg of .46! He has scored over 40 points once (43)! he has has only topped 20 goals twice (20 & 21) and he is a winger.

Monahan has a career ppg of .74 - has only scored under 40 points once (this season on a bum hip) - has been over 60 points 4 times is a centerman and until this year had 7 straight seasons with 22 or more goals.

I appreciate Brown is cheaper - but that is because he is a perennial 30 -40 point winger - of course he is cheaper. He outperformed Monahan this one year by a whopping 7 points - after which Monahan went in for hip surgery.

This trade as it sits is woefully inadequate for the Flames.

It's not all about point production where it is currently a wash. Monahan is awful defensively and gets 65% offensive starts.
Connor Brown is a BEAST defensively and kills penalties all while putting up good numbers offensively despite only 34% offensive starts.
In summary, Connor Brown, at 50 points is much more valuable than Monahan at 60 points (if he can even hit that). So if you want Connor YOU add.

Well let me know when Conner Brown ever achieves 50 points. A career high of one time at 43 is not 50. His next highest season was 36 points!

There are lots of good defensive wingers out there but none of them fetch top 6 centers who average 0.74 ppg. in return for trade straight up.

What you are describing above is Derek Ryan. Ryan does all those things you value in Brown - he had 134 points in 339 games since 2016 (0.43 ppg) vs Brown's 171 points in 373 games since 2016 (0.45 ppg). He plays on the fourth line with crappy players, kills penalties and is excellent defensively. If he was 27 instead of 34 do you honestly believe would teams be valuing him the same as or more than Monahan?

Brown is a good player for what he is - but he is in no logical way equal trade value for Monahan - so no worries - you can keep him!

You clearly know next to nothing about Connor Brown if you think he is like Derek Ryan. 43 points in 71 games and 35 points in 56 games is 50 point pace. Brown isn't a defensive winger, he's an elite two-way winger. He was second in the entire league in takeaways, only behind Mark Stone and lead the entire league in short handed goals with 5. He lead our team in goals scored and was one point away from leading our team in points. He's not a 3rd liner LOL he literally plays 20 minutes a night for us in all situations. He literally leads ALL Ottawa forwards in ice time. YOU clearly know nothing about him and how valuable he is to us. tears of joy

You're really using career numbers like they matter in this context? Brown played bottom 6 minutes while in Toronto. Only 14 mins the season before he was traded to Ottawa. Likewise you're valuing Monahan's PAST production more than what he has done recently. Monahan's last two seasons have been 45 and 28 points. Brown has been more productive in that time frame.

Monahan is a 60 point top 6 center with 65% offensive zone starts who is a liability defensively (just take a look at his advanced stats, yikes) and benefits from powerplay time and solid linemates.
Brown is a 45 point top 6 winger with 35% offensive zone starts who is elite defensively who barely plays powerplay, kills penalties and shuts down other teams top lines.

I take Brown anyday because I'm actually informed on his two way ability and role on this team.
