Making the Sens competitive but young

Created by: adamorimoli61
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This approach allows the Sens to stay young but be somewhat competitive this season. The trades made help stock pile the draft picks as well as moving on from players that won't be apart of the future in Ottawa. I don't think this team would be ready to contend next year but the improved cap flexibility allows them to make even more moves.

If Colin White doesn't bounce back in this lineup next year, then I would move him immediately. I would even throw in a sweetener (i.e. prosepct/pick) to get his contract off the roster since they have to sign RFAs in the next few years. The same for Zaitsev if possible but there probably won't be many teams willing to acquire him, and he has a modified NTC.
Watson should also be moved after next season, keep him around for now just for leadership/injury purposes.

totally agree that he's going to be great but it really seems like DJ Smith is going to be bad for his development

Didn’t Abramov sign in the KHL? Why would Seattle do that?

I didn't know that!

But regardless, it won't make a big difference to this team since the pick will probably be Logan Brown now. I don't think any of those two would make opening night lineup with this roster...

Oh seriously no worries honestly. It’s not like it was breaking news. I’m sort of disappointed that he couldn’t crack it in the NHL. His skill set got me really excited in juniors. Just unfortunate.
