At this point, if I'm Toronto I don't give up anything more than a 4th round pick for Hamilton's rights. Everyone knows he's basically going to free agency, and there's been reports out already that he's interested in Toronto. Why move your best defenceman when you can just wait a bit longer and get Hamilton for free? Then if you need the cap you can move Rielly for something else that the team needs.

This just doesn't seem to have any point to it from Toronto's side and Carolina is running away in value here.

You can keep Engvall but otherwise I think Canes say yes generally.

I personally still think Hamilton comes back to Canes bc I doubt he’ll get much more in FA than the final offer from Canes and it’s a pretty perfect situation for him here.

Rielly for warren foegle and a second isn’t a bad deal at all Hamilton rights are so we can give him a 8th year guaranteeing we get him

You do realize that the Avs have their own D to protect? Probably not the best plan to spend good picks to not be able to protect another one.

Contract negotiations between Carolina and Hamilton have stalled and they have allowed him to negotiate with other teams hes as good as gone and part of the value is shedding Engvall

That’s not full story. Carolina gave an offer and Dougie thinks he can get more elsewhere. Carolina gave permission for his agent to go find better offers so they can either figure out a sign and trade if there’s an 8 year deal involved or potentially come back and continue negotiating if the offers aren’t far apart since he has said repeatedly since joining he’d love to stay here as it’s a great fit.

His agent has been working for a couple weeks now on other offers and nothing big has come up which is why it seems like the door is still open. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up leaving either in a sign and trade or just in FA but also wouldn’t be shocked to see him back in Carolina.

Engvall is a no thank you still. Pawn him off elsewhere.

Rielly for Foegele and a 2nd is not a good deal for Toronto. They don't need anymore middle 6 wingers and the puck doesn't help them in the slightest right now. So again, it comes down to Hamilton for a pick and that's about it. I don't see the 8th year being a big deal if there's considerable mutual interest in the first place.

If Toronto signs Hamilton in free agency, I'd think Toronto would start the price for Rielly to Carolina at Morgan Geekie and a 1st (top 10 protected). I could see a few more assets on either side being added, but that's what fits Toronto's needs. & they're not gonna move their beat defenceman for anything less than something to drastically help them win now.

For that price Id take Holl. Make SEA pick between Graves, Donskoi, and Holl (probably Graves), then you get to keep the other 2
