What i think Carolina needs this offseason

Description
Now dont get me wrong, Carolina is an excellent team with an excellent coach, but every team has it's flaws. I think Carolina needs a pure shooter. Let me break it down with stats

Carolina shooting % leaders:
1. Aho (16.2%)
2. Niederreiter (15.9%)
3. Fast (15.8%)

Thats not exactly bad, but i think it could be a lot better. They have been shut down by some of the elite goalies in the league (Vasilevskiy, Rask), so lets look at how Carolina has made life for these goalies.

Vs Vasilevskiy
2021 GM1: 38 SOG (1 goal)
2021 GM2: 32 SOG (1 goal)
2021 GM3: 27 SOG (3 goals)
2021 GM4: 25 SOG (4 goals)
2021 GM5 (Elimination): 29 SOG (0 goals)

Vs Rask
2019 GM1: 31 SOG (2 goals)
2019 GM2: 23 SOG (2 goals)
2019 GM3: 36 SOG (1 goal)
2019 GM4 (Elimination): 24 SOG (0 goals)

What can we notice from this
1. They scored 0 goals in both elimination games
2. They were over 30 shots in just 4 of the 9 games (44%), this stat isnt bad, just inconsistent

Thats where a pure shooter would help. These players would get you big goals at big times. Here are some players i think fit what i am looking at

Brandon Saad (Pending UFA) - A player known to score and step up his game in the playoffs, Saad's shooting percentage of 22.1% would be 1st on the Carolina Hurricanes. He would be a good fit in the top 6

Andrew Mangiapane (CGY): Mangiapane is a gifted goal scorer, and would be a great fit for Carolina's third line. His shooting percentage of 19.8% would also lead the Canes and just came off a strong world championships. I think a swap between him and Niederreiter would work for both teams, as both are very good players

Also canes fans do you think Jarvis can make the team next year??

Calgary won’t give up Mangiapane imo. He’s part of the team there

I wouldn't call Saad a pure goal scorer. That shooting percentage of his is an outlier and is likely subject to change.

That being said, targeting him isn't a bad idea. I'm just not sure about that role.

From Canes perspective this will be great and addresses everything you’ve laid out which is a true weakness. However I think you’ll get killed by the Flames fans for this deal. Mang seems close to untouchable unless you go with a massive overpay which I doubt Canes would do.

Jarvis is likely a year away still but everyone is very excited at how he’s developing and what he projects to be when this core is in their prime.

What other trade targets do you think make sense and teams would actually move instead of Mang? I’ve explored UFA but would be interested in other potential trade targets.

I like this. The general blueprint of what we're doing here makes a lot of sense. Foegele and McGinn out for two better and more experienced wingers is good too. We'd probably need to add on the Mangiapane trade by the way. Overall, though, you did a great job on this.

    A. I don't necessarily disagree, but I will say oiS% more so than s%, but s% to, is extremely variable, and just bc someone has a higher s% doesn't mean they're a better finisher than someone with a lower s%, they could just take shots that have a higher chance of going in, and the other guy has a higher s%Ax, but that is also an extremely variable stat, so ig the guy getting to higher danger areas could still be more valuable (I'm totally thinking of this as I go and arguing with myself lol)

I would say they also need a d man, assuming Skjei and Gards go, they should def pick up someone better than Martinez up fill the top 4 role (or play Gards there, he's hated on way too much imo)

Where is the incentive for Calgary?

Mangiapane is 4 years younger, 3 million dollars less expensive, produces the same (while continually improving each year), and is team controlled as an RFA moving forward.

Nino is a good player but is a UFA at seasons end. I don't see a fit, and Mangiapane is not available regardless.
