Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Dumba, Matt
Additional Details:
Minnesota are likely not going to protect Dumba and Canucks need Top 4 D. And he only makes $6M for 2 more seasons.
MIN
  1. Juolevi, Olli
  2. Roussel, Antoine
  3. Virtanen, Jake
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (VAN)
  5. 2022 2nd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Roussel has a 8 team no-trade list, fingers crossed Minnesota is not one of them. Virtanen and Roussel are there to make the cap work (both can be exposed in the expansion draft) and Juolevi + 2nd round pick(s) are the assets
2.
VAN
  1. Jones, Seth
Additional Details:
Assuming Canucks can re-sign Seth Jones for around 7x8 (sign and trade)
CBJ
  1. Myers, Tyler
  2. 2021 1st round pick (VAN)
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Myers is to make the cap work, and he can slot in a Top 4 D role straight away. Myers is also signed for 3 more seasons, so he won't bust and leave like all the others until Columbus can finish their re-tool and be a playoff team again. Columbus also gets the 9th overall pick and a 3rd round pick as an asset.

Vancouver can deal with Virtanen on their own. Nobody wants that bad PR.

Nobody has been proven guilty. And if he is, Canucks can always terminate his contract. Also Canucks can switch Virtanen with Beagle (Canucks retain $1M) and still do the trade

I don't see why we're taking on two cap dumps to get a bust D prospect and a couple 2nds. Other teams will surely beat this value, as well as addressing our needs. Pass.

Seth Jones and Nate Schmidt are great 2-way defensemen. Harmonic is a solid shutdown D. Dumba also adds a lot of physicality and has an underrated 2-way game.

LOL. Have you seen any of Jones' defense numbers over the last few years? Your AGM team is very consistent with your name sake. Overpaying for players passed their prime. Congratulations you win the Jim Benning AGM contest!

First, they are not cap dumps. They are overpaid by $1M at most. Beagle is one of the best faceoff guys in the league, is good defensively and adds a lot of veteran leadership. Roussel adds a lot of grit and physicality, which you need to win in the playoffs. Also two 2nd round picks is what got Devon Toews who has roughly the same value as Dumba. Olli Joulevi was also very good in the first half of the year (pre-covid) and the only reason I want to move on from him is because he is a LD and Canucks have Jack Rathbone, who is better.

Canucks are not going to deal any of them in a trade, they are core pieces. There is this thing called a trade block, maybe you should look at it.

Hate to break it to you, but the "trade block" is a figure of speech.

MN is better off letting Dumba go to SEA and use the $6m in cap for something they need, not random stuff they don't need.

It's over 5M in cap space for fourth liners. They're cap dumps.

In any case, Hurricanes fans have already been amenable to a 1st and Suzuki (no cap dumps) for Dumba, so we'll go ahead and still decline your offer.

A trade block?? Getting a player that would cost a 1st and 3rd, Jones signed a 7 year deal so he's not a rental, and then adding a dead cap dump. That's A trade block??

Yes I have. Sportslogiq LOVES Nate Schmidt. Micro stats like zone exits, winning puck battles, dumps, blocked shots/passes are very favourable to Seth Jones. He is one of the best D-men in the league. Brad Shaw who uses a lot of analytics loves Seth Jones and considers him a Top 10 defensemen in the NHL. I'll take a specialist defensive coach's opinion over yours

You should look at our trade block too. Jones is on it and so is the return, a first, a high prospect and a second as the way into the negotiations. It being the 9th pick nullified the 2nd but while it works for Your cap it doesn’t work for ours. We wouldn’t take Myers for nothing as he’s not worth his cap hit or money owed. He’s a dump to us so what else are you sending to us to compensate us for reliving you of your cap issues with Myers? If not we can look for another trade without a dump involved.

Devon Toews was 24 and and solid Top 4 D. Toews was as much of a cap dump as JT Miller, they still have lots of value. And the position Minnesota are in with Dumba and the expansion draft, their situation is not much better.

We're not in the position you think we are, and even if we were, your trade is still bad for us. If you take out the cap dumps, then your trade is more in line with how you think it is. With the cap dumps included, it's awful.

Tyler Myers led the Canucks in ice time this season and had a very good year. He blocks shots, adds physicality and is tough to play against. He is a good Top 4 D and is at most overpaid by $1M. And again, unlike Seth Jones, he is under contract for 2 more years and will be a stop-gap option to replace Jones until the re-tool is complete. And the 9th overall pick (Kent Johnson, Mason McTavish, Simon Edvinsson) + a 3rd is more than it cost the Canucks to acquire JT Miller who is a better player. I highly doubt CBJ get a better offer and if they do, they should take it.

Also Seth Jones wants out of Columbus, a guy who literally does not want to be there is not what you would call a core piece. In a re-tool if somebody offers you a Top 10 overall pick, for a guy who will leave anyways, you take it and run which I expect your GM to do

you mean $6M for players that are only signed for 1 more season and can be exposed in the expansion draft

To be honest the trades seem fairly reasonable people will give a hard time over “cap dumps” but it’s fairly obvious they don’t see the grey area just because a player makes slightly more than he probably should doesn’t mean they suddenly have a huge negative value. Since the cap went flat people have been taking that to the extreme it’s non sense really.

Columbus has been one of the best defenses in the league for years and Seth Jones has been a huge part of that. Again, Sportslogiq who literally provide analytics to the NHL loves Seth Jones. And so does Brad Shaw, one of the best defensive coaches in the NHL. The opinions of experts and data precedes your amateur opinion
