One Last Ride Eichel plus depth FAs

Created by: DrumMan44
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 24, 2021
Published: Jun. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Toews comes back, this is an attempt to get two last chances of contending out of #19 and #88 before their contracts are up.

Note on LTIR. My understanding is that you can be 10% above the cap during the summer, then place player on LTIR just before the season begins.

Im sorry, but these trades are really poorly executed. All 3 have very bad effects for CHI.

I mean, to get a top center in the league (who is 24 years old), you're going to have to give up something of value. The whole idea here is to give Kane and Toews one last shot at contention before their deals expire in two seasons.

With that angle in mind, what would you change? Or are you firmly in the camp of building through the draft / acquiring younger players?

I don't think it solely has to be through the draft but its certainly a good angle to take. I also like to take into account cap situation and building a better team rather than a top heavy one.

Why I disagree with this proposed Eichel trade is the fact that it includes not only Dach but Reichel as well, for whom the organisation has big hopes for and he has shown good quality against men albeit in the DEL but more recently at the Worlds. I also think taking on Eichel's cap hit prohibits us from getting the right pieces around and growing organically from within and takes away flexibility from adding to what could be a talented core in the next couple of years if we stay the course.

as for the other trades, they should be self explanatory, Holtby wasn't great last year and even retained isn't worth a 2nd + 5th (subban). Strom is worth a 2nd + 3rd and I may hold an unpopular opinion but DeHaan can actually defend and Imo is not a cap dump that needs to happen. Yes he has fitness issues with his shoulders but when he plays he is one of our best D man.

I agree with you on this. I don't think the Hawks should trade for Eichel, but this is what I think it would take if they did trade for him.

I think that anyone over 25 should be actively shopped TBH. Even if that means losing 2, 19, and 88.
