If you are offering 7yr x $7.8 million, Carolina could offer 8yr x $7.5 million and Hamilton would have an extra $5.4 million dollars by the end of his last NHL contract.

That said, the Athletic speculates his ask is 8yr x $8.5 million.

It won’t be all about money I have heard he wants to play in Toronto hometown so something in that range would work I guess

Hometown discount? Doubt it... even hometown favourite Tavares didn't take a discount. Maple Leafs under Dubas basically means nobody takes a discount.
