-NJ would probably retain a couple million on Subban to make that happen

-The team would probably be in decent shape cap wise next season

-I'd honestly rather forego both Saad and Dumba and try to target a much higher end top-6 forward (maybe Gaudreau, seeing as Farabee prefers RW and the team is starting to look thin at LW)

With how Flames fans value JG, I like to think maybe next off-season the Flyers pursue him in FA and bring him home - one can hope!

It's going to take a better sweetener for Detroit to take Ghost's contract off your books. '22 2nd and you have a deal.

Ghost still holds value, this is probably the most I'd give up for someone to take him, maybe a 3rd. At that price, I'd reconsider him to just play on the third pairing and still QB the PP.

That's a lot of money left for a guy that has shown regression each of the last 3 years and passed through waivers for free. If you're not willing to go higher, you're not going to find a buyer and I'm not even talking about only Detroit, but throughout the entire league in a flat cap season. There are other options out there for teams that want to buy assets for cap dumps and can still fill a role that you're competing against too (Gardiner, Leddy, etc)

He did have a much better year last year compared to the year before, but I do understand what you're saying. Truth is, I don't think two years at $4.5M is a ton of money, and if a team who has the space used him right, I think a deal could be made for a 3rd round pick (especially in this draft which isn' very good to begin with).

Under normal circumstances, the money wouldn't be an issue, but in a flat cap, where a lot of teams had to dip into LTIR AND the league has said it will be reviewing LTIR more closely (Kucherov) to stop circumvention, cap space has never been at a higher premium, which makes taking on any cap almost impossible for most teams, which limits the pool as well.

Rather just trade a pick for JVR

Subban is still a decent Defensemen (not worth 9 mil) and will help the Devils reach the cap floor
