Rebuild 30

Created by: UnrealDeal14
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 10, 2021
Published: Jun. 25, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
At this point the core of Eichel, Risto, and Reinhart have not been able to lead the team out of the basement. Now they are either wanting out (Eichel) or close to UFA (Reinhart & Risto). Can't be worse without them so trading them to restart another rebuild is necessary before they leave for nothing.

My goal would be a different type of rebuild with lots of vets to make rookies compete harder for spots and then be allowed softer matchups early and grow into key spots rather than force feed them.

Lots of deals so won't explain them all. Overpay on short term FA's to provide that support, and picking guys with bounce back potential.

Gaudrea/Reinhart trade is a 3-way deal to get max assets in return. Unprotected 1st, 2nd and decent middle 6 forward is probably more than just Reinhart can fetch.

Eichel deal key is Laf. Deal wont happen without him but I think NYR can do that with the surplus wingers they have.

Risto is also leaving via FA in a year so getting an asset is a must. Strome has major flaws but is worth a gamble if I'm the Sabres, and Beaudin could be a good puck moving 4-5 dman.

Rather gamble with Laf and Chytil than make this trade. Find another center option some other way.

Outside of Filip Forsberg what would be a better return for Gaudreau?

Hawks decline. Risto just isn’t a fit in Chicago.

Assumption would be they both would be interested in an extension.

Flames should take that and sprint away form the table thrilled with themselves, get it done before the NTC kicks in and move on from Gaudreau for good.

The deal fills two glaring holes for Calgary, get a scoring right shot winger and solidify the right side of the D core, Jokiharju is a phenomenal option that goes beyond solidifying. All while giving up a left shot winger that leaves Calgary with Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Dube still down the left side. Expansion is obviously an issue here as one of Tanev, Andersson or Jokiharju would be exposed.

Id rather stick with Strome and Beaudin then trade for 1 year of Risto.
