They could, but in this post which exclusively focuses on the Vegas trade they don’t need to be,

iirc teams only truly put them on LTIR if they need to be there. Usually they ride IR unless their cap situation requires LTIR. Putting these guys on LTIR makes meeting the cap floor more difficult.

Why would they pay for De Haan when they already might trade McNabb because he is allegedly too pricey and they want to keep Martinez. Also can't see Vegas wanting a slow footed non-forechecking center at double the price of a guy more suited for a 3C role. If they go for a center it will be a bigger piece or a more aggressive player than strome. Adding De Haan to this makes no sense.

Cody Glass hardly even played for the knights and they showed that they NEEDED center depth during this off-season. In their end of the season press they said they had felt like they gave all the young guns enough of a chance to thrive and I got the vibe they were sour on glass. De Hann is added to this trade because they won’t be able to bring Martinez back and he can replace a lot of what Martinez brought at a very small cost. With this trade Vegas checks off two items on their to do list and Chicago basically gets a mull again on the Strome situation.
