Description

With the expansion looming, the Avs get paid a second-rounder rather than losing Graves for nothing. Kings pay to keep their players by offering a 3rd rounder, Maata, and Lizotte. (Or they decline and the Kings (protect 4/4: Doughty, Graves, Roy, Walker / Kopitar, Kempe, Iaffallo, Andersson) likely lose Moore.

The Kings could also flip their first-rounder + Madden to get Reinhart, as they have the cap space. Or send another second rounder to the blues for Taranseko.

You are ignoring the fact that SEA will still get to take another player for free. Its either:

A: Move Graves for a 2nd then let SEA take Donskoi for free. aka lose 2 good players and only get a 2nd round pick in return

or

B: Let SEA take Graves and keep Donskoi. aka COL gets to keep more depth

they lose a player for "free" either way. Moving Graves for an underwhelming return doesnt prevent that

I mean Donskoi is averaging under 15 min a night and paid nearly $4M. Avs are now an alluring destination where good players will take discounts to be with the team, and this during a cap crunch. I think it would turn out well for the Avs, but if you think Donskoi is vital to the Avs success in the future I get it.

Clauge might happen, absoultely. It is expected that the Kings will protect Moore over Lemieux, he looked great last season

I guess, either way what the Avs fan said above is probably correct. Loosing Graves for free is better than loosing Graves and Donskoi for a 2nd
