With that Nolan Patrick trade the Canucks don't need to waste time on a person that is high risk for concussion. They are already paying for Ferland.

Plus Karlsson is starting to look like a strong trade for Benning.

Sadly with the recent Virtanen allegations, I don't think he'll be moving - not to mention playing - until he is proven innocent. However, these trades seem to all be pretty reasonable.

The Ekholm trade is probably a fair value trade, but I don't think it makes sense from Vancouver's perspective.

This team likely doesn't qualify for the playoffs, so the 1st has a strong chance at turning into a lottery pick in a strong draft class. For a team that likely wont be contending for at least the next 3-4 years, didn't have a 1st or 2nd round pick last year and whose prospect cupboards are pretty much bare, I don't think it makes sense to trade the pick for a 31 year old D with one year left on their contract, even if he is a good player.

I like the idea of taking a chance on Patrick though. I'm not sure on his value but I think that would be a reasonable cost to take a chance on a player that has had some promise.

I was kinda thinking maybe a conditional 1st becomes second if he doesn’t re-sign. I think ekholm and Schmidt would be perfect pairing. But prolly wouldn’t happen
