I don't think you can do that with AAV on contracts anymore. If Ovi takes less than $10M AAV and four years, it'll be a miracle. Samsonov will certainly get a one year, prove it deal. Probably closer to 1.5-2M, but that's just splitting hairs.

Rangers hang up if you ask for Kakko in a Kuznetsov trade. Not in the realm of possibility when they won’t even include him in an Eichel package

12 -10 -10 -8 -6 -6 -6 -6 = 64/8 = 8 x 8

It'd be a 35+ contract, so the Caps would be on the hook for all eight years then.

The plan would be that he plays all 8

I mean, I'd be all for watching Ovi play another eight years, but he's gonna get a $10M+ contract for four years, and then probably go year to year after that. He wants to play for the Dynamo in the KHL to finish his career, and I doubt that comes when he's 44.

I have no idea how to paste a RAPM comp chart correctly. But Strome is basically same offensive impact as Kuzy and a bit worse defensively.

And so the basic point is, the Rangers are pretty good with Mika and Strome down the middle. They want to upgrade the pair. Kuzy is barely an upgrade on the ice, and is a total disaster off the ice, so why on earth would they pay Kakko to make that swap. Its comical.

Yeah. I think by taking full-priced Deangelo, OP makes sure Kuznetsov is not the worst headcase in the deal. But throwing in Kakko still seems high, without, like, Lapierre added.

Rangers are buying out DeAngelo once the window opens, already been reported. There is no value there since his buy out is negligible, $300k this year and sub $900k next year. So adds no actual value to the Rangers side of this deal.

Kuznetsov is a year and a half older and had 115 more career points, and has led one more postseason in points. Strome's contract is a good deal, but he's got more seasons as a non-factor that Kuznetsov. When they're each on, they're each pretty good. What site do you look the charts up on?

Evolving Wild.

My point isnt that Kuznetsov is not better than Strome. Its that he isnt that much better, let alone give up Kaapo Kakko better. He isnt even give up a 1st round pick better lol.

Thanks. I already posted your first point, above. Whether the difference is worth a 1st depends how good the draft is, how many games you were able to get scouts to, how many games the prospects got to develop, and whether you're looking for a cheap #2 center or an expensive guy who can explode into a #1 center. Kuznetsov's biggest question mark is that the last three playoffs he's only got ten points in 17 games. Strome, career, has 10 playoff points in 18 career games. Only the Sabres fan above thinks the difference is Kakko, but I think a mid-first in a pandemic draft would be a cheap price to upgrade to the guy who led the NHL in playoff points in 2018 with 12 goals and 36 points in 24 games. I'm not sure what the Caps get out of that offer, but if they take it, I think it sounds great for New York.

If the Rangers are burning 15 O/A and Strome to upgrade at 2C, Kuzy and his deal just doesnt move the needle for me. Guy had one playoff run. Thats it. He is a headcase. No nonconsistency, ripping lines, somehow got Covid twice lol. hard pass.

Yeah. You should get Eichel instead.
