Description

This is an actual dollars problem for cap dollars problem trade. ARI could be considering a buyout of Schmaltz that would cost a total of 10 mil over 10 years. A Parise buyout would cost 7 over 8 years. This trade would reduce the actual value of a buyout for ARI while providing them a 1st, a high upside/low cost roster player, and an average prospect. This assumes money and futures are the primary motivator for ARI. If the yotes do not buy him out, the savings would worth over 30 mil in real dollars with a considerable savings per cap dollar.

Schmaltz doesn’t solve the center problem for MIN but I believe he can serve as a stop gap until Rossi comes up and then can move to the wing. He can also be freely exposed to Seattle IMO or protected with the slot that was reserved for Parise.

I think I know why you say this, but why do you say this? The whole idea here is that ARI saves money.

I really like this idea if that's the case. Seems like a good way to get out of the Parise contact

He has a back loaded contract (30 mil) and he’s still under 26 so the buyout is 1/3 and not 2/3. I doubt a buyout happens but they want to move his contract, but that will be tough for cap and real dollars reasons. This return is probably the best they could get and they get multiple cap dollars for each real dollar.

It’s a dumb idea but the business side is how this would gain traction. It’s not good for hockey reasons for ARI.
