As a Wild fan this is a stupid trade. No point in picking up a guy who will be out of the league in a couple years for a 26 year old top 4 dman. I would much rather we try and trade for Gabriel Vilardi.

what a preposterous Kopitar trade.

First, hes not being traded. But he would fetch a haul and that isn't it.

I dont know how much value Dumba has now. He is still a great fit with Doughty.I want Kopitar since he is likely a good value due to the fact that LAK need to move out this contract if they get Eichel. He is a 1C and his presence would be beneficial for our young players. Look at that King Henrik did with NYR young goalies. Imagine if Kopitar as a mentor does that with our young centers/forwards.

I tried Vilardi-Dumba trade a couple of days ago, but they ask a lot for a risky trade like that

And if you get Eichel, dont you need to move him out to continue the team development and free up the cap (10 mil!!!)

Even if LA would trade him(they won’t) Minnesota doesn’t have the cap space for Kopitars contract + plus trading for a 33 year old in the waning years of his career just so he can be a mentor isn’t a smart move.

He is a 1st C with PPG stats on a "bad" team

Just one more reason LA would keep him. When I say “waning years” I’m not saying he’s a bad player but he’s on his way out of the league. It would be much more prudent to make a trade for young center prospects.

I'm not an LA fan.

No you dont have to move Kopitar. Look at all the cap space they have. Also Dumba makes 6 million, so its only 4 million in savings. Kopitar is still scoring at a 73 point pace the last 2 years. playing over 21 minutes a night, winning 57% of faceoffs and playing selke caliber hockey. if he was made available he would fetch way more than matt dumba and a 3rd

A trade like this would be the worst decision Guerin could make. The exact opposite of his mission statement.

73 point pace, 21 minutes a night, 57% faceoff wins, under contract for 3 years for Dumba who is under contract for 2 years and likely gets exposed to Seattle. Its a preposterous trade for LA to make.

I’m not saying kopitar isn’t a great center - he totally is. Just the age and contract size is the opposite of what gmbg has been preaching.

He handed out 53 million dollars to a 29 year old Jared Spurgeon as one of his first moves as GM taking him to age 38
He handed out 42 million dollars to a 27 year old Jonas Brodin, taking him to age 35
He was AGM when they handed out 30 million dollars to a 32 year old Mats Zuccarello, taking him to age 37

thats just for starters

Guerin was AGM in Pittsburgh when Fenton signed Zuccarello.

Guerin didn’t do zuccarello. He did do spurgeon and brodin. And their play styles will both still work towards the end of their contracts.
