Canes deal is actually pretty interesting. Would prefer to keep Bean though - would a higher level Fwd prospect do the trick?

We woudl hate it. TM has 2 more yrs at $6M, Risto would be a cap dump of sorts (relax I want him here in Jersey) for one yr while the kids marinate a bit. TM is not what we want.

If VAN can get that for Myers they should take it! Would really help the team going forward.

We need more of Adam Larsson, Connor Murphy, Esa Lindell type...responsible with puck, can separate defenders from pucks, and block shots.

I don't see VAN moving Miller, he is to important of a player for VAN.

I think Bean is likely gone in expansion. A trade like this would work very well for both teams immediate needs.

Probably right....Benning has not shown the kind of foresight for anything like this. It does however allow for them to have a much more balanced team. This type of mix may very well be a playoff team.

Nah they’re likely to protect Bean over Skjei. There are quite a few middle pair type defenseman that will be available in draft that would be more appealing thank Skjei so it’s lower risk. Francis would be more likely to take Bean as he still has a high ceiling, is cheap and team controlled for awhile, and he drafted him whereas Skjei was traded for by GMDW. Even if Skjei is chosen (over Fast, Foegele, etc) it’s not a huge deal as this frees up about $5M in cap space where than can address that gap in FA.

Ristolainen is not as good as Myers and will cost you more. A second plus is what I'm reading most places. Myers is easy to move when he no longer fits.

Risto is in his last year at $5.4
Myers is 3 more at $6M ea
I would not give a 2nd for risto
So if I'm making the moves it's not myers

no, this is not true. they will protect Skjei over Bean no question. No way they can lose Hamilton and Skjei in the same offseason.

Ha ok - didn’t realize we had GMDW on here under a burner account. No question, done deal. Thanks for clearing that up chief.

It really all depends if they are thinking long term or short term doesn't it? A case can absolutely be made both ways and each has pluses and minuses.....trading for Miller would be a win now move for sure though.

That’s my point. Don’t think somebody can claim that it’s an absolute certainty.

A moot point anyway as Myers would probably have NJ on his NTC list, but from a value and need perspective it does work. Lets face it, no RD UFAs of significance are likely signing there unless NJ over pays so it will have to be a trade. The $$ and term are not an issue considering Subban is in his last year.

Agreed, especially with the way the Canes have managed their assets. I am very curious as to how this off season works out for them.

Cheers

We need a placeholder for one year, Risto fits that, especially if as you say no one comes here. Money is not the object, getting ownership to pry open the wallet might be, lets see. With the flat cap for 2-3 yrs upcoming it may make for some interesting situations with some teams. We gotta do something though in Jersey

I think NJ starts to add this year and may surprise with what they do. Lots of possibilities with the ED......but I honestly see them open to anything that upgrades their FW and D group. Lots of good young players there.

I agree, lots of fans not even interested on taking on a Hamilton. Want to wait until they are competitive. I think thats silly, at some point start steering the ship in the right direction, it all cant happen at once! Yeah sure he's gotta want to come here, but your right its starting to shape up. Are you guys moving pieces to free up cap? Loui, Jake, etc and what is the feeling on what they will give up if so?

I'm actually afraid of what Benning has planned. His track record is so spotty. Buying out JV and Holtby seems like a sure thing, but apart from maybe Roussel, moving cap is gonna cost too much. Beagle and LE should just be buried and we ride out this year. Miller, Schmidt and (maybe with retention) Myers have some value to create space and add pieces, but I think Benning is too married to the players he has signed and traded for to use that to his advantage. The EP and QH contracts are going to cost a ton and that is where it gets tricky. I'm honestly not that optimistic LOL.

Once NJ gets rolling it becomes easier to sign the big names, but for now even if they have to over pay, there are some decent middle six guys and bottom four D available. Who do you think you guys are drafting??
