Not a knock on Kerfoot, but NYR need to upgrade 2C not 3C. Unless they view Chytil as a very good 2C and will be a 60 pt player, Kerfoot doesn’t make sense.

Lmao no way the leafs do the marner+liljegren for tkachuk deal. I wouldn't do marner for tkachuk+2 3rds let alone adding liljegren

Why do the Leafs value Engvall so much? He's a well paid 4th liner. In what world do you think you get a 3rd round pick for a guy that can be easily replaced with a lower cap hit. Nobody is going to pay more than a 7th (if they even pay that) for a guy that can be picked up on waivers in a few months.

I see him as top 6 wing, not C, if he was a good 3C there was no need to move him. Good 2 way player winger for the top 6, to complement the young wingers already in the roster, great penalty killer, that can, in a pinch, play centre and if they cant find a fit worth the cap hit, they can flip him next year. Really dont see the downside for the rangers (assuming reports that georgiev is on his way out are correct). What team would kerfoot be a better fit then?

He can play 3C and be effective, depending on what you ask of him and is a decent penalty killer. many picks in the 3rd\4th dont even become NHLers how is that an overpayment?

I dont know, as true as that is, a high end D is what they needed the most against tampa. Not sure if it would happen, but would def be considered imo

Im sure sutter wouldnt straigh up take marner for tkachuck, let alone add picks. Adding a prospect might convince them to do it and help restore our pick capital a bit. Justin Bourne believes the organization is trying to get some value back for Liljgren as they dont think theyll ever be a full time nhler, seems like getting tkachuck the best use for him, if his future is not in the organization

Yes, this all about bennett. No way the panthers wouldnt have had use for Reilly against Tampa. Lets just complain how unfair tampas team is...

A coherent well put together point. Maybe there is hope for cap friendly.

The fact that you think a coach negotiates trades pretty much sums your entire response.

With marners contract and playoff performance tkchuck has more value than marner, so leafs would have to throw something extra in to get tkchuck

If he is a an effective 3C making $1.25mil/year that can do everything, why wouldn't a capped out team like Toronto want him? In my option if Engvall is your 3C, you are in huge trouble depth wise. Reality is he's a 4th liner. Oilers just re-signed Shore for $850k, Ennis made $1mil last year and would likely re-sign for similar, Khaira is expected to qualify at $1.3mil and then sign for less AAV, McLeod/Benson/Marody/Holloway will all be pushing for roster spots making less than $1mil. There's no compelling reason to spend assets on a lateral move for a guy that costs more.

By your logic that many 3rd rounders don't turn out, teams should just always trade their depth picks away for bottom six forwards? I look at Tampa who's very well on their way to back to back cups and they found Point and Cirelli in the 3rd round in consecutive years. I would say given that an Engvall would peak at a 3rd liner and is easily replaceable, why spend an asset on him when you could wait for waivers or have faith that your scouting department can find someone who turns out? I would get that point about a 7th rounder but 3rd rounds do usually turn out some decent NHLers.

The coach doest negotiate the trades, but if u believe sutter took that position and wont have a say in the trading happening or not is pretty naive. this was simply a fun exercise for me, really dont care how smart u think you are, i made an argument for my suggestion, if youre just looking to call me stupid, dont bother, i already knew that

Absolute zero say. Darryl is back in Viking enjoying his summer on the farm.

No one is calling you dumb but referencing the wrong party as the person you’re trading with pretty much kills the whole point.

There aren’t many flames fans that will agree but they don’t run the front office. Tkachuk for marner one for one is a clear win for the flames.

The price of aquisition that i put up took into account that its edm, he is an upgrade to most of what they have at the moment, for any of the bottom 6 spots, and they want to add value now, so a ready player is worth more than the pics at this point for that organization in particular and the flexibility that he provides with a decently low cap hit might be helpful with the reshape of this roster this offseason. I see your point about the 3rd though, id do it for a 4th, thats prob the fair value

Uhhh Marner is the better player by a fair amount and sutter isn't the gm. Liljegren will be a good top 4 dman, for sure a full time NHLer he just hasn't gotten a shot to prove himself yet.

Until hes injured again. I really didnt make the trade for Bennett in particular, my thought process was to use Reilly to get a 3C and Florida seems the team that might have better use for him considering how their post season ended. Thought of Carolina as well, since in my scenario, they will loose Dougie, but i dont know their team well enough to make a good choice to come the other way that would fit my needs. Im open to suggestions

Carolina is deep on D which is why they can let dougie walk.
the argument until he is injured again is weak. he broke a bone he will be fine once healed. if there was a lot of ligament or joint damage then i would be concerned as those are the ones the typically reoccur and limit abilities or career.
they traded for bennet and fit onto thier 1st line perfectly. I dont see them as trade partners.

I guess it comes down to me not seeing Engvall as an upgrade. The Oilers were a top 10 team for PK last year so don't necessarily need to add for that. What they need is bottom 6 scoring and Engvall doesn't move the needle. Ennis had a higher P/GP at a lower cap hit. I don't think Engvall is a bad player, I just don't think he's an upgrade and costs more in assets and salary than what we already have.

Good, Flames wouldn't trade Tkachuk for Marner 1 for 1. Hope this means the trades can finally stop between them
