LA is desperately short on wingers. They're not going to trade away one of their only winger prospects.

Since recently learning that LA isn't able to take the 2nd year option if Reinhart elects arbitration, I wouldn't give up a 1st for him, let alone a 1st plus a quality prospect.

Perfect, sub Turcotte and have Sam come with an extension already in place. Win/win

If he were willing to sign an extension before being traded, why wouldn't Buffalo just keep him?

That defeats the purpose of a sign and trade.. which yes rare, but trade and sign deal right afterwards isn’t. And the thought is Kings get him for the now Buf gets futures. Pretty self explanatory.

Shaw is retired and Buffalo is not taking on LTIR money losses. The Pegulas would never agree to that. Although I think they might be OK with Okposo taking that route, they aren’t in the market for other teams’ non-contributing money losses.

I'd love that but I'm preparing myself for a rebuild that sees both him and Jack gone.

Certainly not. They just got Arvidsson too. They could easily give up that package for Reinhart, who is a winger/center

Increases the return of the trade though. We get 11th OA, an elite level prospect, a struggling center who can be a top 6 guy, and a impressive middle 6 player who Buffalo should have signed after we drafted him

Hagel played well for Chicago last season, but that doesn’t mean he would continue to play well here. Can we confidently say that we can put him in a situation where he would continue to thrive? Realistically, provided things go according to plan the Sabres already have a good productive third line with Mittelstadt, Apslund, and Thompson. I am prepared to roll with those guys in that spot next season and see if they can continue to be successful. The Sabres need to get rid of some of the deadweight on the fourth line like Eakin and Okposo, but would Hagel thrive playing on the fourth line with Girgensons?

Outside of rebuilding parts of the fourth line, it’s obvious it’s the top six that needs the most help. I am certainly curious what Kevyn Adams is planning to do to make this team watchable and competitive rather quickly. I still believe finding two competent goaltenders would be the biggest thing they could possibly do to improve how competitive this team is.

I see your point. I was watching Hagel very closely because of his connection (albeit a sad one) to the Buffalo Sabres. He just plays the game the right way. He is relentless on the forecheck, wins puck battles, and plays with feisty energy that fuels his teammates. Regardless of where he would play in the lineup I think he can make a positive impact. Certainly I think Adams needs to bolster our goal tandem through free agency. I see Ullmark resigning as our long term starter and maybe a guy like Reimer coming in for a 1-2 year backup deal. There is also that gaping hole in the top 6, especially if Eichel and/or Reinhart are moved.
