Initial Creation Date: Jun. 29, 2021
Published: Jun. 29, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Strange way of staggering contracts, but only way to fit it under the cap. Hopefully cap goes up after this year and moving forward so we can pay our defenseman. Some of these lines are dreams like the Laf-Chytil-Kakko line and the Raty-Barron-Kravtsov line.

Or…..just bridge him at a reasonable amount, and negotiate with a 26 year old who’s an RFA.

Negotiations at 26 with him would cost a lot and there still is very little cap flexibility in 24-25.

This is 23-24 I think the cap would go up by 27-28.

Idk

I doubt Detroit goes for Trouba. He's still overpaid at around 6M. And this is around the time Detroit gets out of their rebuild
Same with Boston. They already have plenty of wingers (if Hall resigns). No room for Kreider

And one of them (my guess) will be named Captain so the Rangers wouldn't move them

If not traded, bought out. Doesn’t matter to me. Cap has to go and it will one way or another.

It goes up after the HRR goes above $4B in consecutive seasons. Don't they use a formula to determine how much the increases by?

My thought process is to buy the most amount of time to lock guys up to long term deals to allow for whenever the cap goes up.

It would be a weird move to buy out your captain right after you name him captain

Kreider and Trouba are the two front runners for the C right?

Probably. I’d prefer to name Fox captain.

That's a possibility

I heard Lindgren as a possible candidate. Idk why he would be captain

He’s a character guy, who’s willing to stand up for teammates and not afraid to play nasty despite not being the biggest.

Not as much as when he is a pending unrestricted free agent. Not nearly as much. It’s just a silly concept to bring him to UFA without giving him 7+ years.

3 years. I agree with you on that.

But I think he would want long term deal (8 years) over 3 or 4

So what? Hes an RFA. He doesn’t get what he wants.

But for sure four years would be the term he would want over anything else.

More of a intermediary deal till we’ve got more cap flexibility to lock him up for 8 once the cap goes up.

He's the Norris winner. Doubt Fox is gonna settle for a short term deal when he should be getting 8x9-10M

The last thing you want to do is piss off Fox. When teams start being cheap with their RFAs you get situations like PLD.

Well if the rangers move to a city like columbus, hire a coach like torts, and fox starts playing like absolute crap, then ya, he might ask out.

However, this is a place he seems to want to be. Bridge is the easy solution here.

The last thing we wanna do is be dumb like Toronto and just start handing out $10 mil. Norris is nice, but I wanna see him take this team to the playoffs and perform when it actually matters.

Smaller, but yes. And he doesn’t cost $8 mil. So that’s a plus.

Bridge isn't the easy solution. It's the way you walk your guys into UFA. You sign your top young talent long term.

The most important thing is to lock up your top young guys long term. Believe me, the worst thing would be signing Fox to a bridge then him leaving.

He’s not leaving the team he forced his way to. I’m not saying we don’t pay him. He will get paid a lot of money in due time. I’m simply trying to find a way to fit it under the cap.

If you're gonna hard ball him with a long term deal, don't be surprised to see him hard ball the team once you walk him into UFA.

If the cap space isn’t there, it isn’t there. Do you suggest icing a defense of only Fox and 5 guys making $750k league min? Cause that certainly won’t help us either. We need to find a middle ground.

What? That’s like an oxymoron. Bridges don’t walk guys to UFA. That’s the point of a bridge. Duh.
