Hugh’s isn’t signing 8 yrs at 6 mil maybe on a 4 yr deal, his camp is using Chabot’s 8X8 as comparable’s and Benning better get him signed before Makar’s deals get done or the price goes up

Makar is better than Hughes and I don't think they're comparable as I'd expect Makar to get a lot more.

I think 8Mx8 for Hughes is reasonable but the Avs are good at getting good players sign for cheap so maybe it's better to wait and see what Makar gets before signing Hughes.

Makar should be getting 1.5M more than Hughes at a minimum. He has better production and is much better defensively not to say he is good at defense.

Hughes is a career -34 in 129 games. He is a great offensive D man, but he can be exposed in his own zone. You can't hand out huge cap hits to players who won't provide the best overall value per dollar. $7m is the absolute max I would give Hughes, if he demands $8m, I would probably just let him walk and take the compensation draft picks. If you want to make a winning team, players either take team friendly cap hits or you let them go. Tampa Bay is in the finals all the time largely because Brayden Point came off a 92 point season and resigned at $6.75m. Since then, he has put up 56 points in 42 playoff games. That's how you win cups. Well, I guess it also helps to be almost $18m over the cap but that's another topic altogether.

I don’t disagree, I’d take Makar over Hugh’s any day but we know how agents are they try to use comparable’s all the time that aren’t comparable’s
Personal if I’m either one I’m taking a 4 yr deal around 6-7 mil per by then the NHL should have recovered then you cash in on a 8 yr deal, Hugh’s 9x8 and Makar 10.5x8

You’re right but +\- is the most useless stat, so it doesn’t help ur point. Also Hughes can’t get offer sheeted rn. I thought 8x6 is a pretty team friendly deal, I assume he’s gonna get shorter term cuz the Canucks have cap trouble and benning is an idiot, but $6 mil isn’t bad for a player of his caliber.

I know +/- gets a bad reputation, but couple that with actually watching the player and it's clear that the minus is there because of giving up a lot of chances 5 on 5 against. 8 years at $6m would be good. Hopefully Benning can leverage that whole offer sheet situation to good effect without making Hughes bitter and resentful.

+\- tells you nothing important. I’m not even exaggerating when I say watching what a player ate in the morning is better for evaluation. By every definition of the word, useless. He did have a poor season defensively, but so did draisaitl and he’s like 2nd in the league in +\-. Also Hughes can’t get an offer sheet, hasn’t played enough.
