He hasn't been a 30g scorer in 3 years. St. Louis is better holding him until the deadline to showcase that he's still the same player after his injury. Right now, he doesn't hold much trade value, especially at his full cap hit.

He was a 30 goal scorer as recently as Viktor Arvidsson was.

hes right in his prime. preds can get an insane return for him. he isn't arvidsson. one is a streaky winger the other is an elite goal scorer. think a pacioretty type return

Detroit declines.

There are better options in FA than Määttä.

I agree, he is elite. But playing 34 games for 7 goals over 2 seasons does not provide a top-line winger trade value. Kings are bargain shopping, if the Blues think Taransenko will be healthy next season they should keep him, but if they are worried there are possible injury concerns that will plague the rest of his career, it's not unwise to find a better usage of cap space.

yeah but the potential exists for him to score 35 again, so the trade will be based on potential. its a similar situation to pacioretty when he was traded from mtl. everyone said you aren't getting value cause he only scored 17, but he was traded on potential. and that potential fetched a good return in the long run. now tarasenkos issue is health, unlike pacioretty. so the issue is the same, but you get the gist of it

I think it takes more than that for Tarasenko....but not what Blues fans seem to think, it's not 3 years ago

No I see it, basically the Kings did this when they got an injured Justin Williams. But I think you won't be happy with the return he would have in the current cap crunch.

Blues pass on this, not enough incentive to trade him.

Uhh, two years. And it's kinda hard to score 30 when you're recovering from an injury, and then from an incorrect surgery.

The last season he scored 30 goals was 3 seasons ago. The injury and surgery recovery is all the more reason why teams shouldn't give up much for him. If St. Louis trades him now, they're going to take a significant hit on value. They're better off keeping him and showcasing that he's actually capable of reaching anywhere near 30g.

It's risky though, because if he's not the same player and can't score at his old rates, then the Blues will be stuck with a negative value contract that they'd have to pay to get rid of.

Okay, you're counting 1,2,3 seasons, I was counting seasons since. Same thing, really.

I'd prefer to keep him unless they get an offer they can't refuse. I am confident he'll be fine once he gets a proper preseason/practice schedule to recover his timing.
