Laf isn't terrible and is a good piece but Eichel is just better... Even with the neck thing I take Eichel over Lafreniere 10/10. Centres also have a lot more more value than wingers.

If the trade was reversed and Eichel was a Ranger you'd be saying this isn't enough...

Would you give Panarin half retained for the 1st OA pick in this draft?

I wouldn't trade Laf str8 up for Eichel. Also you can't compare Panarin with Eichel cause Eichel is broken while Panarin is 100% fully heathly. Its that simple. What happens if Eichel in a couple years from now has to retire or has another surgery.. If not in a couple years maybe 4 years from ? maybe 5 years from now ? all while Laf plays 20 years in the NHL. Point i'm trying to hammer home with you is WE JUST DON"T KNOW!!! and that is why he's not worth a 1st overall pick.

Obviously Eichel is better than Laf, he’s also been in the league for 6 full seasons as opposed to Laf’s 1 covid shortened season.

Players get what the market dictates, and right now Eichel has a depressed market because of his cap hit in a flat cap period, a severe neck injury, and an NMC that’s set to kick in next year which takes away any leverage Buffalo has in terms of trading him.

As to your Panarin argument it’s not a fair comparison imo. Bread is a better player, is not actively trying to force a trade away from the Rangers, and Lafreniere is still better than any prospect in this years draft class.

This is what Sabres fans need to understand. The market dictates what you get in a trade and Eichel has no market now because of all the issues that come along with him. LA isn’t sending Byfield or even Turcotte, Minnesota isn’t sending Rossi, Anaheim isn’t sending Zegras, so there’s no reason for the Rangers to overpay and send Laf
