2 top 6 forward gambles and defensive depth

Created by: bdb
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 1, 2021
Published: Jul. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Gus is owed 6M in cash and 11 M over the next 2 years. Blue Jackets take a flyer on Joulevi, assuming Kekäläinen is higher than most on him, and clear some cash. Roussel can still play and is owed 1.9M in cash. Maybe the 3rd is a 2nd but don't think Nyquist has a ton of value coming off his injury.

Buffalo pays some decent picks to move the worst contract in hockey. They need to take on some short term cap hits and salary to make it work.

None of Edler, Nemeth, Hakanpää or Poolman are game changers but all can play limited minutes in the top 4 or hold down a bottom Pair.

Picks 9, 33, 41, 53 and 88 should produce a few legit prospects and more importantly for Benning this team is better positioned to make the playoffs.

Because when he played centre this season he liked it and he was good at it. Having Miller at 3c is like having two 2nd lines if you can have the right wings...I love the experiment of Skinner, but the risk is high and Canucks are just ending the tire fires of Eriksson and Luongo's retirement debt. They need to learn from their mistakes.

I knew this was gonna be bad as soon as I seen Skinner.
IMO you need to get Petey or Hughes on a 8-year contract, and then the other on a 3-year like is done here.

You could hope/give a pick to Seattle to take Holtby for pretty much free, and just bite your teeth on the Loui Erikkson contract or wait one more season and buy him out.

Ha! I didn't even see this. I was too fixated on us bringing on a 6 year contract, paying $9M a year for a 29 year old whose production is projecting to diminish to less than 10 goals per 82 games. Yikes!!

Canucks seem determined to use him as a C.

Skinner is a massive risk and would likely never pay off in the long term. That said he's not too far removed from elite play, seems to be a victim of some poor bounces and was still a very strong possession player. I think he's due for a bounceback especially if he's away from Buffalo.

He was a decent fill in when he was filling in for Pettersson, but I would expect him to back on the wing once Petey is healthy
