Not a conventional 3rd line it’s more of a checking line, whereas they go out there and nothing happens. All 3 players are defensive responsible and will make a solid line whereas nothing really happens.

The 4th line is more of a scoring line and will provide those depth goals

Ilya Mikheyev is 26 yrs old. A good buy low sell high option to regain more futures and assets at the deadline. Y’all bought low on Barbanov and turned him in a valuable asset as you gave him a larger opportunity. Teams at the deadline will trade futures for guys like Mikheyev.

with guys like gourde, Coleman and Johnson. Guys who score like twice as much than Nash on bad years. Tampas checking line is a double threat, not a nothing line.

Goodrow can help drive the line, and Simmonds was a monster before the injury. I think Nash would just be the defensive centre we would need and would be effective. We can deploy Nash line against other teams top line. That’s my 2 cents but I do see the other perspective

he's just really not that good. I mean, part of his nothing happens while hes on the ice thing is that nothing happens for his team either. He kills their offence just as good as he does the other teams.
He's the kind of guy you want as a 13th forward you can throw out on the PK or when you are protecting a lead but he's not gonna do you much good the other 90% of the game.

sharks bought low on Barbanov by trading away another fringe player, not a 3rd round pick. They didn't throw away a pick and a roster spot for someone that didn't matter. Not to mention Mikheyev is making 1.65M

I disagree he doesn’t really kill your offence. The offence died because it because of the way Mikheyev and Kerfoot played on that line and their deployment. It’s the line Keefe would want to deploy against other top players

he does though, he's been doing it for a few years now. That was why the leafs traded for him in the first place. No one for columbus scored when he was on the ice there either.

    You guys have cap space…

You do realize a 3rd rounder probably will play less games than Mikheyev will in a Sharks uniform. It’s rare teams hit on actual NHL roster players past the 2 round. Only 45 players in the past 10 3rd round in the drafts became NHL players which averages out or about 5 players in 31 selections. Meaning you only have less than a 17% chance of getting one of those players.

I think it’s worth a shot especially when you would have extra cap space to add the deadline. That extra 1 million in cap space would get us 3rd line centre especially with how common double retention trades became

you can have Jacob Middleton if you want to get rid of Mikheyev. He ain't worth anything more than that.

He played less NHL games than Mikheyev did in his rookie season where he got injured in December…

Mikheyev has almost the same amount of playoffs games played that Middleton has regular season games played…

Okay, well SJ isn't throwing away a pick and a roster spot for a 1 year fringe player on a non-playoff team, that would be a very dumb move. And Mikheyev cost's over 2x as much as Middleton.

SJ doesn't want Toronto's trash, unless they are taking some back too.
