You're missing the point. No one is saying Ghost is useless, but more than half the league is in a bad spot cap wise right now and can't afford to take on ANY money. Combine that with a flat cap and a free agent market where teams can get quality players for pennies on the dollar and no one is paying to get a guy when there are cheaper options (money or assets) available. You also need to factor in the trade partner. The Wings are still in a rebuild, so a player like Ghost is still a cap dump to us, which means, we need incentive to take it on.

I'm not saying it's fair, but it's 100% a buyer's market, so your options are to take a loss, or not sell. It sucks for sellers, but it's the reality right now.

Given that York only got a cup of tea in the NHL last year, Ghost is probably still on the roster come next season. DeadWingsv2 has the right of it regarding market value in a flat cap world. It's more worth it to keep Ghost on that third pair and QBing PP1 rather than trading him now.

Separately, JVR doesn't require an incentive for Seattle to take him. He's a consistent goal scorer on a decent salary for what he does without too long a term at 2 seasons. Add to that Hakstol's strong preference for having the D fire pucks at the net, JVR is the ideal forward to complement that offensive ethos.

That might get us Jones, but I hate losing Frost. I'd counter with offering Patrick, but it's up to Chuck Fletcher of course.
