Eichel Stays

Created by: CuyahogaKid
Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2021
Published: Jul. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not really convinced at this point Buffalo will actually move Eichel considering his health, and the fact that Adams may not budge on the ask, while other GM's will likely not bite unless the price comes down....realistically

UFA's

N.Foligno- may need to overpay, but the team could use his room presence and physicality. He could be a deadline deal for a short term deal.

D.Savard- another former CBJ, and future stanley cup champion with TBL. A veteran presence needed for the blueline

B.Goodrow- Soon to be 2x Stanley Cup champiion, versatile, physical bottom six forward. He slotted in as 4C here, but he likely moves all over the bottom six.

C. McElhinney- with the goaltending disaster last season, he provides Buffalo with a #3 goalie with experience if he comes back another year.

B.Ritchie- a physical 13th forward type who can play on the 4th line and drop the gloves. Buffalo is a much more notably physical team here,

A.Clendening- another Buffalo native, and depth defenseman for AHL/NHL duties.

  1. Reinhart, Sam [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
***There are quite a few goaltenders that will be available in free agency for CBJ to bring in including Linus Ullmark, who could be looking at a change. CBJ needs a center, and there are simply too few of them available, and if Reinhart is viewed as a center, he could be the best option...but it's a gamble. Something Jarmo has shown he's willing to do

BUF
  1. Foegele, Warren [RFA Rights]
  2. Gardiner, Jake
Additional Details:
This takes place after the expansion draft. Foegele is looking for a change of scenery and more ice time, and Buffalo could give that to him.

Seattle is projected to take Miller anyway. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Eichel is not staying.

Asplund needs to stay. He really helped Mittlestadt down the stretch.

Don’t give away Apslund. There is no need to protect Girgensons because they will not take him. Coming off the significant injury that cost him the entire season, why would they take the risk when they could easily have a useful piece in Colin Miller?

Not a huge fan of Risto but this scenario actually makes sense for Canes. They are moving Foegele anyways and if they can dump Gardiner, 1 year of Risto is probably worth it. Might want some retention on his salary tho

The reason Eichel is still around is because of the expansion draft, not because Adams won’t budge. In all likelihood they probably already have a deal in place for him as soon as Seattle’s picks are announced

Not if Buffalo doesn't back down on the price, and they probably won't move much. As long as the injury is an issue, I don't see many suitors for Eichel at his salary right now. It wont be suprising if they keep him

His NMC kicks in next year and they lose all leverage. They almost have to.

There are a dozen teams in on him already.
