Habs 2021-2022 opening night

Description
Feel free to leave comments on what you think of these moves.

I think Montreal needs to build off this cup finals appearance, build around the youth, and be mindful of our cap situation. These past years of playoffs have really shown that depth / having players on good contracts can be more important than Star power, to a certain extent. The tabs have star power on the raise with Suzuki and Caufield, and eventually Kotkaniemi. No need to overpay for a Star forward anymore.

Habs sign Oleskiak, 28 years old, to a 3x3 to replace chariot (upgrade) who can be moved if we need cap space for a young prospect defence on an entry level deal if needed. (Guhle)

On defence, Habs let Kulak walk next year and bring in Jordan Harris on an entry level deal. Give Guhle, Norlinder, Struble, Brook and the rest a couple more years to properly develop their game, maybe giving them a couple NHL games here and there.

      Two years at 3.4m is going to cost you more than. 3rd to get someone to take on. He’s a 4th line player who’s been scratched this season as well. At least a 2nd to take that cap dump.

      If Oleksiak is going to Montreal it would have to be for more than $3M. He could easily get that to stay in Dallas and the taxes are so much less.

      The Avs have about $25.5M in cap space assuming they lose Graves (most likely) or Donskoi(2nd most likely) they will have nearly $29M in cap space, the narrative they are tight to the cap just isn’t true. Even assuming they give Makar $10M, Landy $7.5M and Grubauer $6.5M they still have cap space. In addition Nichushkin makes $2.5M, a guy like Compher is a much more likely to be moved in a cap trade because Nichushkin is affordable, and with Jost form 2/3rds of a very solid 3 line that is great metrically and rather in expensive.

      Byron, Paul
      2021 3rd round pick (WSH)

      ==========

      Pass, again, and again, and again...

      Byron doesn't beat out Formenton, Dadonov, Watson, or Paul for botton6 winger, and he's certainly not beating out Tkachuk, Stützle, CBrown, or Batherson for top6 winger.

      If you want to clear cap space, pretend Seattle would take Byron with a draft pick, they might take it to stock their juniors/minors systems
