July before the expansion draft seems like the easy call because teams will have their 2021 picks still and know how SEA did or who they’re exposing. A good idea with free agency in who’s staying and what the RFAs are asking.

That’s only IF the team getting Eichel doesn’t need the spot(s) to protect other players, otherwise after the expansion draft or at the entry draft makes the most sense.

In season seems much less likely. . . If he’s traded lol

If it isn't done before the expansion draft, it might not happen until some resolution is reached with his injury. That said I think it happens before the NHL Entry Draft. Buffalo seems to be really big on this draft, and I think they will get a deal done so they can include picks this year.

I'm going to say between expansion draft and entry draft. There's several teams that probably don't want to use a protection slot on Eichel, but are prepared to pay their 2021 draft pick(s) for him. I think it will either be just after the expansion draft or on entry draft day.

if it doesn’t happen by the entry draft it’s not happening until
he’s healthy (or at least at a stage where there’s clarity regarding his injury and a realistic timeline for return/assurance that he’ll return at full health)

It can't come soon enough for me because I can't stand all these idiotic five- and six first-round-draft-pick-equivalent ACGMs, but I hope my SoCal teams wait until he plays at least 25 games before diving in.

I'd say July at the draft as the team trading for Eichel gets to protect an extra player
