Description
Re: Duclair - a speedy winger who could be great alongside McDavid. Offer sheet is unlikely, but he might be available via trade or FA if he's difficult in contract negotiations again.

What do you guys think? Could any of Duclair/Gusev/Montour/Driedger be fits?

I don’t want Driedger. We need a proven starter, not one that may be good, or may be bad. Montour isn’t bad, but a good left handed defence man is what we should target, but I wouldn’t be mad if we got him. Gusev is meh. He was on 2 teams in the span on 1 year. He hasn’t been as good as he was when he was a rookie. I’m not confident that he will be a good player for us. Duclair is actually okay, but if we can, I would stick him with McLeod on the third, and get a better winger to play with McDavid. That’s just what I think… it’s an interesting idea!

Why wouldn't we just... re-sign duclair? We are trying to compete

I think that's still the likely scenario. This would be just if he's available b/c he's being difficult in contract negotiations again.

A lot of cap space left if you aren't going to use it you should just bury instead of buyout contracts.
