In this scenario they trade for Eichel and decide to keep Strome as their 2C. Won't be able to afford Zib next year so they move on, Minny may need to pay more but he'd just be a rental

I think Zib would be such a good fit on Minny

Yeah but youre going to a team that wants to compete but is starved for centers and saying give me your 1 legit center for wingers which you have so damn many of. It really doesnt make sense at all. In terms of seattle why would they take 4 years of ~7.5 million of dead cap which is pretty much buyout proof for a late 1st in a crapshoot of a draft.

Like I said above, this would be if Eichel gets traded to NYR and they wouldn't have the cap space to re-sign Zib beyond this year. You can definitely argue the return but the Wild have enough assets to make a move work.

If Minnesota goes 4/4 and Parise waives, the best available player would be Hartman or Rask

Soucy I guess... Kahkonen is exempt and Foligno would be protected

If foligno is protected theres foligno, zuc, fiala, greenway, and ek thats too many. Also are you sure kahkonen is exempt, i see everywhere 1 of the goalies exposed (talbot or kaapo)?

Makes zero sense for the Rangers. They don’t go after Eichel if they don’t think they could retain both as top 2 centers. There are others places they can cut salary if it comes to it long before Mika goes on the block

If we got JE we would still keep Zibby and move a winger when needed. Also if needed because to get JE we would likely be giving up assets. Regardless I can’t see us ever moving him or him wanting out.

In the expansion draft tool, Fiala doesn't meet exposure reqs and I based it off that. But you are right about Kahkonen, I didn't think he met requirements but he does so you're right that him or Talbot would be more valuable

That's why the post is called "If he's available". Don't know why you both act like it's impossible for him to be moved if they acquire Eichel since he'll likely want a big payday and could literally walk at the end of the year even if they have the money. I can agree the return might be more but it's a possibility he gets moved

But it’s really not a possibility that he’s moved. A team doesn’t go “all in” so they can finally have 1A and 1B centers just to trade one of them before they play on the team at the same time.

I’m not sure why you’re overreacting here. I’m simply telling you we would be keeping the better C’s for multiple reasons. Owner wants to compete for a cup and that’s what they would do by acquiring JE. In that event Strome might be available. Also we would just find a way to keep both so we had a strong C lineup. It’s not impossible, but it does make 0 sense with the direction we are going. Maybe that’s why our responses seem like they are shooting your idea out of the sky 🤷🏻‍♂️

It makes sense. Rangers can't afford both Mika and Eichel so Mika likely has to go.

The package isn't really enough though. Rangers have a lot of winger depth and need C's. Someone like Khusnutdinov would be a definite inclusion. I think if you add him you're pretty close. The 1st/Beckman/Greenway would all likely go to Buffalo in an Eichel deal anyway.

Yes theres 2 things
1. Any player who played a certain amount of professional games is eligible to be picked.
2. Every team must expose 2 forwards and 1 defenseman who are under contract for 21-22 who played a certain amount of nhl games.
Fiala might not qualify for number 2 but he certainly does for number 1.
