Your kidding right? The cap this rids you of helps you guys massively. Your welcome to keep Holtby and not do this deal at all.

If he doesn't move this summer, he's there the full term with his NMC. Ive seen some who would be prepared to move him so they don't have the cap hit the full term.

It wouldn't surprise me, if their main guy they want is gone this works for them. They have plenty of young kids, they need to start to move into the next phase at some stage.

Vancouver is not that desperate for cap space to deal a high pick and better goalie for a fringe NHL backup

They need to sign EP and QH. They will need flexibility.

Kalynuk’s a decent prospect but plays the wrong side of the ice so Ottawa likely wouldn’t have interest. He wouldn’t fit with Chabot, Brannstrom, Mete and Sanderson (after the season) already there. The 3rd doesn’t move the needle.

In no world is one year of Connor Murphy worth the 10th pick in the draft. Moving to the next phase of the rebuild will happen yes, but it doesn’t involve giving valuable assets away on overpays. That’s how you get stuck in a rebuild.

My hunch is the jackets would need another asset to go along with the Jones trade. A guy like strome or a 2nd. Something along those lines.

Was on the proviso that Murph was extended at ~$5m. I didn't put the explanation back in when doing the draft, Kalynuk can play the right too but could replace him with another prospect, the 3rd is going to be around 70-80 OA.

I can understand that assessment, I just feel CBJ could lose some leverage with the player controlling if he would agree an extension etc and for 1 year of Jones adding more is far too risky for a team in our rebuilding situation.
