There’s no way danault signs for only $3.1 m annually.

I’m guessing he’s going off of RNH. 8 years but you get a million or so less per year

I’d swap drouin and armia. Armia is a shutdown role who can bring offence is perfect and drouin will two skilled players is also a better fit

Doubt he’s back though

Armia should for sure be brought back, i also wouldnt be surprised if Drouin never plays another game for the habs.

Pierre Lebrun reported from discussion with another GM that he’s looking at something as low as 4x$4mm in the UFA market. I could envision Danault preferring $25mm total value to $16mm, especially if it comes with some kinda Quebec pizza endorsement deal, and not needing to move his young family.

We’ll see soon enough. What do you think his cap hit would be with the Habs?

I think danault's deal with be 5 or 6 years 4-4.5 mil. Also i dont think suzuki jumps the gun and signs n 8 year deal for 5.75, would be awesome for the habs if he did but i expect his next contract has a higher aav, term is right though, probably an 8 year 7 mil if we lock him up after next season, assuming he continues the way he has been playing.

Maybe Bergevin does 5x$4mm for Danault.
Maybe…
Definitely depends on what else is available though. Granlund with a 3 handle on his deal would also be attractive.

having watched what danault brings throughout these playoffs i dont think we need to look else where. from a cap perspective i think you could even swing 5 mil per and make it work, but i dont think we have to go that high. As great as suzuki and kk have looked, suzuki much more so than kk, to remove danault and add a cheaper center whose chemistry is uncertain isnt worth it to save a mil.

Other teams are watching and he’s had an excellent playoffs. Danault is in the drivers seat. I think he’s worth 4.5 x5 yrs. he can get 5.5/6.0 now because of his playoffs. So depends what he wants.

In my opinion, the cap doesn’t work in 2022 if you pay Danault that much. Our team only can be successful if we have depth. Pay Danault too much and depth quickly becomes impossible.

Also, in terms of relative importance of players on our specific team, Danault is below Toffoli in terms of team’s importance, imo, and his salary should reflect as much.

I don’t agree with your prediction at all, defensive players don’t make that kinda money, but we’ll find out pretty soon either way.

I think their respective importance are pretty close actually, now if toffoli goes out and scores 40 goals next year then obviously he will be far ahead of danault but i do think that his scoring pace he was on this year was greatly skewed because of insane success against vancouver and Danault on the flip side had much lower production then he usually does. Also Toffoli contract is not at all reflective of his value if he produces anyone near his goal output from this past year, hes on a serious discount so hard to apply that value across all new contracts signed.

Danault had much lower production this year because we actually have other centers on the team now. He put of those numbers when we had no legit number one and two centers on the team. Expect more of the same or potentially less production going forwards as Suzuki and KK both settle into increasing roles.
