Too little for Dunn both $ and return

He can get to ~ 4M$ in arbitration comfortably

    A 40th + 70th overall pick for him 😳

So St. Louis has to protect Dunn, then trade him?
Wouldn't they just keep him them?

How does Colorado get through expansion draft with Johnson, Makar, Toews and Girard on roster?

Very unrealistic, you have makar signing for 8.2m.

Dunn is being exposed…. They have Krug, Faulk, and Parayko to protect over him…

The compher and Johnson trade were supposed to be together.

No but every mention of his next contract. Same as Hughes and hieskenen is they value themselves higher than the chabot deal. No way you get him less than 9m.

Would love that deal but it’s not realistic

Lol I wish everyone was like MacKinnon and takes less to help the team out. Unfortunately it’s not like that in most cases…

MacKinnon didnt take less money at the time, he signed the same deal as all the RFAs in his offseason class. He just went to super star status after he signed it.

Yes but recently he has commented that he is willing to take less on his next contract because he wants to win with this group.

that was before a pandemic and flat cap era though, maybe he sitll does but until that day happens, you plan for a mega deal for him

He deserves a mega deal but I feel like he will take something in between Landeskog and rantanen. He earns my respect though if he takes less because being a team player and getting a Stanley cup is probably more valuable than a million dollars or two.

there is no way he signs anything less than 10m, even in a flat cap era

Quite unfortunate because it means the avalanche are turning into more like the Maple Leafs for 4 huge contracts. :/

So basically its Dunn for Graves+4th. The Avs don't need another puck moving D or PP specialist, got that covered with Toews, Sammy, Makar and Byram. Need a Big shut down, punisher in front of the net type D. Johnson fits that roll, if healthy, and Gravey fits that roll to a lesser extent. Dunn got almost no PK time and only 2nd unit PP (he wont take time from any of the other 4 pp guys I mentioned...) Gravy #1 TOI for PK on the team. And a +15 to boot on top of it. Dunn is not going to take those minutes. They both average a 19 mins per games and would slot in the same position on this roster. Seems like a lot of effort for not enough payoff, for a roll that doesn't need to be filled or improved. Unrealistic... IDK. Unnecessary is more like it.

Graves trade is probably a season too late. The lefts side is set for next season. Not saying Mete or Brannstrom are better than him right now but the trade would create a logjam at a position that's already more of a strength and if anything would further highlight the weakness at RD. I'd say unrealistic just because of need. Ottawa likely passes.

There's talk that Colorado might buyout Johnson so they aren't forced to protect him, then they protect Toews, Makar, and Girard.

I wonder if you can't get Gourde for a lot less since Tampa has to dump salary going into next season. Vancouver took Schmidt for a 3rd because Vegas needed the cap space.

No, there is not talk of EJ being bought out. He has already agreed to waive his NMC for the XD.

He said that two years ago and he meant not pushing for a max value deal which, for him, would probably be in the McDavid realm. Expecting him to take $4M less is pretty fantastical.

Gourde is a much better player than Schmidt, and Schmidt is pretty good. This seems about right for him

Mete was claimed so the Sens could trade off their excess defence with trade value at the TDL, and was a capable stopgap, but I can't see Mete being more than a depth guy in Ottawa moving forward. He might get a QO and 1 year contract, and he might be a part of the Graves trade, but as soon as Sanderson arrives, Mete is gone regardless. Graves, who is a legitimate middle pair defender, can hold the position this season, and allow Sanderson an easier transition next season. He's the type of defender the Sens target. Mete was just right time, right place.

Regardless of if he agreed to waive or not, "talk of" just means speculation.
